In this paper we describe how prosody prediction can be efficiently integrated with the unit selection process in a concatenative speech synthesizer under a weighted finite-state transducer (WFST) architecture. WFSTs representing prosody prediction and unit selection can be composed during synthesis, thus effectively expanding the space of possible prosodic targets. We implemented a symbolic pr...
An important objective of contemporary synthesis endeavors is the development of new transformations that rapidly evolve molecular complexity in a stereocontrolled fashion. One approach toward this goal is to combine two or more distinct reactions into a single transformation, producing a process often referred to as a sequential, tandem, cascade, or domino reaction. In this Perspective, we dis...
A novel synthesis of anhydrides from twisted amides is reported. Sc(OTf)3 catalysis in the presence of water is used to synthesize anhydrides in one step from amides without external nucleophiles. Mechanistic studies indicate that the coordination of the catalyst is critical to induce the challenging N-C activation step. This process further highlights the utility of twisted amides in organic s...
Optimisation in high level behavioural synthesis is usually performed by applying transforms to the datapath and control graphs. An alternative approach, however, is to apply transforms at a higher level in the process, specifically directly to the behavioural source description. This technique is analogous to the way in which the source code of a conventional sequential programming language ma...
We establish the foundations of a lattice-theoretic model for a variant of communcating sequential processes. This technical report is not intended as a stand-alone work, but as a companion to a paper which defines the process algebra and describes its model. We give proofs for various theorems stated in that paper. In particular we prove that the axioms of the process algebra are sound.
We review the development of the process algebra Timed CSP, from its inception nearly twenty years ago to very recent semantical and algorithmic developments.
