OBJECTIVE The coincidence of autism with epilepsy is 27% in those individuals with intellectual disability.1 Individuals with loss-of-function mutations in SHANK3 have intellectual disability, autism, and variably, epilepsy.2-5 The spectrum of seizure semiologies and electroencephalography (EEG) abnormalities has never been investigated in detail. With the recent report that SHANK3 mutations ar...
INTRODUCTION Cystic lesions of the pterygoid process are rare: there are only four case reports in PubMed. CASE REPORT Two new cases (one schwannoma and one cystic lymphangioma) are reported, with clinical, radiological and therapeutic aspects. DISCUSSION A literature review presents the semiology, radiology and treatment of cystic lesions of the pterygoid process.
Much remains uncertain about epileptic seizures in the context of Alzheimer's disease: pathogenesis, frequency, semiology, natural history, treatment. The authors suggest a pragmatic approach to developing the evidence base in order to inform decisions on seizure treatment, based on prior pragmatic studies in epilepsy.
A patient who had complex partial seizures provoked by bathing is reported. All the attacks occurred during or immediately after bathing, irrespective of water temperature. The semiology was suggestive of a seizure focus in the mesial temporal lobe. Though there are some similarities with hot-water epilepsy, this case appears to be a distinct type of reflex epilepsy.

PURPOSE This study aimed to discuss the clinical features of seizure semiology and electroencephalography (EEG) in young children with lesional temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). METHOD Children with lesional TLE received presurgical evaluation for intractable epilepsy. They were followed up for more than one year after temporal lobectomy. We reviewed the medical history and video-EEG monitoring o...
We report the case of a patient with idiopathic generalized epilepsy who ten years after the onset of his epilepsy also developed recurring nocturnal paroxysmal episodes reminiscent of his seizure semiology. Video monitoring and polysomnography revealed episodes of nocturnal groaning. Escalation of antiepileptic treatment was avoided.
Caelius Aurelianus' Latin translation, De morbis acutis et chronicis, of Soranus of Ephesus' original Greek work is a work devoted to internal medicine. Nevertheless, there are some observations about ocular pathologies which reveal the level of the knowledge at that time about the eye and their use as elements of pathological semiology.
