An experimental technique has recently been developed to characterize reactive metals, including plutonium (Pu) and cerium, using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). Microstructural characterization of Pu and its alloys by EBSD had been previously elusive primarily because of the extreme toxicity and rapid surface oxidation rate associated with Pu metal. The experimental technique, which i...

To verify the process of laser-cleaning on metal cathodes we performed a combined photoemission (PE) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) study. We followed the laser-cleaning procedure on thin Lead films arc-deposited on Mo-substrates by means of photoemission in the photon energy range of 16 – 140 eV and determined the surface roughness before and after laser irradiationwith whitelight-inte...

The present paper investigated a preparation of Nano sized Mg0.2Fe0.8O by eco-friendly chemical combustion synthesis using magnesium and iron nitrates as oxidizers and the glycine as a fuel to drive the reaction. Powder characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction (XRD) to estimate crystallite size, Particle Size Analyzer (PSA), Thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA) for determining sample...

In this paper, we have demonstrated the usage of a novel micro-mechanical device (MMD) to perform quantitative in situ tensile tests on individual metallic nanowires inside a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Our preliminary experiment on a 360 nm diameter nickel nanowire showed that the sample fractured at an engineering stress of ∼ 1.2 GPa and an engineering strain of ∼ 4%, which is con...

The aim of this work was to study the structure of dental pulp (mainly the connective tissue fibre and odontoblasts) during the active production of dentine in relation to the age of the patient. The pulps of the teeth extracted for orthodontic reasons from a population of 10-50 year-olds were investigated with the help of a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and a scanning electron microsc...

We report the nanostructures and gas-sensing properties of Zinc oxide nanosheets prepared by hydrothermal method. In particular, needlelike Zinc oxide was also prepared for comparison. The morphology and structural properties were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Subsequent gas-sensing measurement between ...

Self-assembled microwires of terephthalic acid (TPA) and melamine are prepared through the evaporation of water in a solution mixture of TPA and melamine. The microwires were characterized by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), attenuated total reflection infrared (ATR-IR) spectra, and cross-polarized optical microscopy (CPOM). The TPA•M microwires showed semi-conductive properties.

We describe a method for measuring the lateral focal spot size of a multiphoton laser scanning microscope (LSM) with unprecedented accuracy. A specimen consisting of an aluminum film deposited on a glass coverslip was brought into focus in a LSM and the laser intensity was then increased enough to perform nanoablation of the metal film. This process leaves a permanent trace of the raster path u...

Zinc Oxide doped with chromium and cobalt, in form of powder with nanometer size has been prepared by typical solgel route, with assistance of microwave radiations. The as prepared material’s structure was characterized under XRays Diffraction(XRD) and Scherrer formula was used to find the crystal size. The materials also have been characterized under Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and Trans...
