One-pot synthesis of well-defined bio-renewable polyesters and cyclic carbonates in high yields was successfully realized for the first time by way of a tandem reaction using metal salen complexes as catalysts. This tandem process offered unprecedented opportunities for the atom-efficient production of two relevant compounds.

Large chiral triangular macrocycles having three salen ligand sites were obtained by cyclocondensation of trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane with linearly connected bis-salicylaldehydes. Structures of the ligands and their titanium(IV) or zinc(II) complexes have been characterized by means of spectroscopic (CD) and computational (DFT) methods.

The C(2)-symmetrical "salen" ligand (+)-9 bearing two [5]ferrocenophane substituents has been prepared in five steps starting from readily available diacetylferrocene, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and (R,R)-N,N'-diphenylethylenediamine. Reaction of (+)-9 with Mn(OAc)(3), Co(OAc)(2) ZnEt(2) or UO(2)(OAc)(2) gave the corresponding metal-complexes which were characterised by spectroscopic methods.

Several metal complexes of three different functionalized salen derivatives have been synthesized. The salens differ in terms of the electrostatic character and the location of the charges. The interactions of such complexes with DNA were first investigated in detail by UV-vis absorption titrimetry. It appears that the DNA binding by most of these compounds is primarily due to a combination of ...

Interaction of Schiff base complexes of Iron and Manganese: Iron [N, N’ Bis (5(triphenyl phosphonium methyl) salicylidene) -1, 2 ethanediamine) chloride, [Fe Salen]Cl; Manganese [N, N’ Bis (5(triphenyl phosphonium methyl) salicylidene) -1, 2 ethanediamine) acetate, were investigated by spectroscopic and isothermal titration calorimetry techniques (ITC). The absorbance spectra of complexes have ...

Since the discovery of their extraordinary reactivity in hydrolytic kinetic resolution terminal epoxides about twenty years ago, chiral cobalt-salen complexes have been shown to be essential for many other asymmetric catalytic reactions. This account summarizes inspiring works dedicated new and mode action, as well processes towards optimization cooperativity bimetallic activation implementatio...

The mechanism of alkene epoxidation by chromium(v) oxo salen complexes has been studied by DFT and experimental methods. The reaction is compared to the closely related Mn-catalyzed process in an attempt to understand the dramatic difference in selectivity between the two systems. Overall, the studies show that the reactions have many similarities, but also a few critical differences. In agreem...
