OBJECTIVES Recently, echo-tracking-derived measures of arterial stiffness have been introduced in clinical practice for the assessment of one-point pulse wave velocity. The purpose of this study was to find a relation between carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity and one-point carotid pulse wave velocity, and to find a value of one-point carotid pulse wave velocity that predicts carotid-femoral p...

For the last twenty years the melting of heavy quark bound states has been considered an unambiguous signal for deconfinement [1]. Understanding the modification of the properties of heavy quarkonia in a hot medium is therefore essential for understanding deconfinement. Phenomenological studies based on potential models have been recently accompanied by lattice QCD calculations. The temperature...

In this paper we will consider the minisuperspace approach to S-branes dynamics in the Schrödinger picture description. Time-evolution of vacuum wave functional for quantum field theory on S-brane is studied. Open string pair production is calculated. The analysis of density matrix for mixed states is also performed. Heavy-light mesons can be studied using the 1/M expansion of NRQCD, provided the heavy quark mass is sufficiently large. Calculations of the S-wave charmed meson masses from a classically and tadpole-improved action are presented. A comparison of O(1/M), O(1/M) and O(1/M) results allows convergence of the expansion to be discussed. It is shown that the form of discretized heavy quark propagatio...

In this paper, a novel shore-based S-band microwave Doppler coherent wave radar (Microwave Ocean Remote SEnsor (MORSE)) is designed to improve wave measurements. Marine radars, which operate in the X band, have been widely used for ocean monitoring because of their low cost, small size and flexibility. However, because of the non-coherent measurements and strong absorption of X-band radio waves...

When a concentrated pressure travels with constant velocity over the free surface of water, it carries with it a familiar pattern of ship waves. Let viscosity and surface tension be neglected, let the free-surface condition be linearized, let the depth of water be assumed infinite, and let initial transient effects be ignored. Then, as is well known, the wave motion everywhere can be found by s...

S U M M A R Y Seismic tomography has been one of the primary tools to image the interior of the earth and other elastic structures. To date the inversions of compressional (P) and shear (S) wave speeds have been carried out separately under the assumption that P traveltimes are affected only by the P wave speed of the elastic media and S traveltimes by the S wave speed. Using numerical and anal...

We study s-wave scattering of a hadron and a Nambu-Goldstone boson induced by the model-independent low energy interaction in the flavor SU(3) symmetric limit. Establishing the general structure of the interaction based on group theoretical arguments, we find that the interaction in the exotic channels are in most cases repulsive, and that for possible attractive channels the coupling strengths...

Applications of discretized light-cone quantization (DLCQ) to (3+1)-dimensional Yukawa theory with Pauli– Villars regulators and of supersymmetric DLCQ (SDLCQ) to (2+1)-dimensional super Yang–Mills theory are discussed. The ability of these methods to provide wave functions as well as spectra is emphasized.

The decay widths of S-wave quarkonia (ηc, ηb → γγ and J/ψ,Υ → ee) are calculated on the basis of a quasipotential approach. The nontrivial dependence on relative quark motion of decay amplitude is taken into consideration via quarkonium wave function. It is shown that relativistic corrections may be large (10-50 %) and comparable with QCD corrections.
