2. These records principally refer to cropmarks and finds. The only upstanding remains are a henge monument at Gunthorpe 1 and some of the 6 earthworks included amongst the 24 and 14 sites which are respectively categorised as round mounds and round barrows. Evidence about landscape comes primarily from palaeoenvironmental data within deposits in river channels and alluvium which ranges from po...
Morphologic study of rivers is very important in stabilization and determination of river boundaries. Dams are structures which have the highest effects on river morphology. Studies of river changes are usually time-consuming and possible only in the long-term timescales. To detect these changes, using satellite images over specific time periods and cartographic methods are useful. In the prese...
River Res Applic. 2017;1–13. Abstract The transport of water and sediment from rivers to adjacent floodplains helps generate complex floodplain, wetland, and riparian ecosystems. However, riverside levees restrict lateral connectivity of water and sediment during flood pulses, making the re‐introduction of floodplain hydrogeomorphic processes through intentional levee breaching and removal an e...
Groundwater is closely coupled with stream flow to maintain water supply to riparian vegetation, parti cularly where precipitation is seasonal. A case study is presented where Mediterranean climate and groundwater extraction are linked with the decline of riparian vegeta tion and subsequent severe bank erosion on the Carmel River in Carmel Valley, California.
In samples of benthic and bank river sediments of two urban rivers in Christchurch city (New Zealand), we identified and recovered isolates of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum hypovirulence-associated virus-1 (SsHADV-1), a fungus-infecting circular single-stranded DNA virus. This is the first report of SsHADV-1 outside of China and in environmental samples.
The fate of various emerging contaminants as well as priority pollutants from the European Union Water Framework directive was examined along a complex combination of natural and engineered processes used to produce drinking water downstream of a major metropolitan area. The sampling points examined comprised Seine river water downstream of the Paris area, water from a primary well after bank f...
Evaluating a WSD task is a challenge at least as difficult as developing the task itself. Manually constructing a corpus of ambiguous sentences is a difficult and tedious task. Such a corpus is even more complex to produce if in each sentence, each ambiguous word is associated with its correct meaning. In addition to finding/imagining the sentence, it is necessary to have a word sense lexicon t...
The authors present an assessment of risk from river bank erosion in the Brahmaputra river basin. The concept of risk is conceptualised in the context of socio-economic vulnerability, and the potential for exposure to hazard. By addressing both the physical hazard and the variations across the socio-economic surface the approach presented attempts to spatially combine these parameters to provid...
modeling the hydraulic geometry of gravel rivers is of intrest to hydraulic engineers, hydrologists and enviromental scientists who are engaged in predicting the adjustments of an alluvial channel to an altered upstream runoff or sediment supply. the widely used qualitative and regime models, while indicating the general direction of river adjustment, are not able to deal with river response at...
