Fusion of neuraminidase or trypsin pretreated human erythrocytes and untreated cells was performed. The obtained doublets had a permanent dipole moment which disappeared as a function of time. Since the dipole moment disappearance is due to protein interdiffusion the lateral diffusion constant may be determined. This was performed by fixing fused cells in different time intervals following the ...

We present radio line observations from the SEST. On the basis of 13 CO (J=1–0) measurements we estimate the H 2 mass associated with the globules CG 30/31A-C/38 to be ∼43 M. The gas kinetic temperature of the globules is in the range 5 to 14 K. Line wings seen in the 12 CO spectra as well as higher dipole moment molecules towards CG 30, indicate that a dense molecular outflow is present. Espec...

Photochromic switches are essential for the control and manipulation of nanoscale reactions and processes. The expansion of their application to aqueous environments depends strongly on the development of optimized water-soluble photoswitches. Here we present a femtosecond time-resolved investigation of the photochromic reactions (transition between the open and the closed form) of a water-solu...

We predict a new kind of instability in a Bose-Einstein condensate composed of dipolar particles. Namely, a comparatively weak dipole moment can produce a large, negative two-body scattering length that can collapse the Bose-Einstein condensate. To verify this effect, we validate mean-field solutions to this problem using exact, diffusion Monte Carlo methods. We show that the diffusion Monte Ca...

An experimental search for an electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron has been carried out at the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble. Spurious signals from magnetic-field fluctuations were reduced to insignificance by the use of a cohabiting atomic-mercury magnetometer. Systematic uncertainties, including geometric-phase-induced false EDMs, have been carefully studied. The results may be inte...

A robust and versatile method is demonstrated to maintain, for an arbitrary time, quasiconstant and strong orientation for molecules with minute dipole moments. The procedure is based on submitting molecules in cyclic wave packets to periodic trains of nonresonant pulses in an electrostatic field. We show that approximate cyclic states can be created by suddenly switching off a long laser pulse...

There are presented results of experimental-laboratory testing a new method to diagnose the right ventricular hypertrophy. The method is based upon the dipole electrocardiotopography (DECARTO) technique, proposed formerly by the authors and successfully applied for recognition of the left ventricular hypertrophy. The results obtained on reliably verified groups of normal and diseased persons sh...

The growth rate and maximum value of electric field inside the thundercloud of finite dimensions are calculated incorporating the effect of positive space charge produced by corona at the ground surface. Our theoretical findings reveal that the transport of corona space charge increases significantly electric dipole moment already existing in thunderclouds of moderate heights and is partly resp...

The anomalous chromomagnetic dipole moment of the top quark in different frameworks and using the b → sγ process as a bench Abstract The anomalous chromomagnetic top quark moment arise from one loop corrections to the vertex ¯ ttg. We give explicit formulae for this anomalous coupling in the framework of the standard model, the two higgs doublet model and the minimal supersymmetric standard mod...
