The objective of this paper is to describe governing numerical equation and solution algorithm of pollution transport mechanisms and factors essential to include in developing relatively simple and practical tools to quantify pollution loss, advection, diffusion and sorption in pollution transport into the groundwater at landfill sites. This paper presents the development of a numerical model t...

Numerical solution of the advectionedispersion equation, used to evaluate transport of solutes in porous media, requires discretization schemes for space and time stepping. We examine use of quadratic upstream interpolation schemes QUICK, QUICKEST, and the total variation diminution scheme ULTIMATE, and compare these with UPSTREAM and CENTRAL schemes in the HYDRUS-1D model. Results for purely c...

The transient storage model (TSM) has been widely used in studies of stream solute transport and fate, with an increasing emphasis on reactive solute transport. In this study we perform sensitivity analyses of a conservative TSM and two different reactive solute transport models (RSTM), one that includes first-order decay in the stream and the storage zone, and a second that considers sorption ...

We show that the GBW saturation model provides an exact solution to the one dimensional linear transport equation. We also show that it is motivated by the BK equation considered in the saturated regime when the diffusion and the splitting term in the diffusive approximation are balanced by the nonlinear term.

A stable relaxation approximation for a transport equation with the diiusive scaling is developed. The relaxation approximation leads in the small mean free path limit to the higher order diiusion equation obtained from the asymptotic analysis of the transport equation.

We derive a probabilistic representation for solutions of matrix-valued transport equations that account for polarization e ects. Such equations arise in radiative transport for the Stokes parameters that model the propagation of light through turbulent atmospheres. They also arise in radiative transport for seismic wave propagation in the earth's crust. The probabilistic representation involve...

Class Meeting # 24: Transport Equations and Burger’s Equation In these notes, we introduce a class of evolution PDEs known as transport equations. Such equations arise in a physical context whenever a quantity is “transported” in a certain direction. Some important physical examples include the mass density flow for an incompressible fluid, and the Boltzmann equation of kinetic theory. We discu...

Rockfill dams are accounted as useful measures in watershed management projects. How-ever, the sediment transport through the rockfill materials, could impact their lifetime duration. Previously, researches have been conducted to describe the various hydraulically issues of the flow passing through these structures However; there is no general relationship to estimate the sediment transport rat...
