In this paper, we study the plasmonic thermal conductance of ordered stacks of metallic nanorings in a host material. Using second quantized formalism of the Random Phase Approximation, we first determine the dispersion relations of surface plasmon waves on the stacks of nanorings. Then, using Landauer-Buttiker formalism, we determine the coefficient of plasmonic thermal conductance and heat cu...
We present upper and lower bounds for the number in of interval graphs on n vertices. Answering a question posed by Hanlon, we show that the ordinary generating function I(x) = ∑ n≥0 in x n for the number in of n-vertex interval graphs has radius of convergence zero. We also show that the exponential generating function J(x) = ∑ n≥0 in x n/n! has radius of convergence at least 1/2.
We apply a spectral stacking technique to Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope observations measure the neutral atomic hydrogen content (HI) of nearby galaxies in and around galaxy groups at $z < 0.11$. Our sample includes 577 optically-selected (120 isolated 457 satellites) covering stellar masses between 10$^{10}$ 10$^{11.5}$ M$_{\odot}$, cross-matched with Yang's group catalogue, angular red...
Abstract. The joint spectral radius is the extension to two or more matrices of the (ordinary) spectral radius ρ(A) = max |λi(A)| = lim‖A m‖1/m. The extension allows matrix products Πm taken in all orders, so that norms and eigenvalues are difficult to estimate. We show that the limiting process does yield a continuous function of the original matrices—this is their joint spectral radius. Then ...
Let b/a be a strictly proper reduced rational transfer function, with a monic. Consider the problem of designing a controller y/x, with deg(y) ≤ deg(x) < deg(a) − 1 and x monic, subject to lower and upper bounds on the coefficients of y and x, so that the poles of the closed loop transfer function, that is the roots (zeros) of ax + by, are, if possible, strictly inside the unit disk. One way to...
A truly Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method is developed for solving 3D elasto-static problems. Using the general MLPG concept, this method is derived through the local weak forms of the equilibrium equations, by using a test function, namely, the Heaviside step function. The Moving Least Squares (MLS) are chosen to construct the shape functions. The penalty approach is used to impose ...
A solution is presented to a doubly mixed boundary value problem of the torsion of an elastic layer, partially resting on a rigid circular base by a circular rigid punch attached to its surface. This problem is reduced to a system of dual integral equations using the Boussinesq stress functions and the Hankel integral transforms. With the help of the Gegenbauer expansion formula of the Bessel f...
To minimize or upper-bound the value of a function “robustly”, we might instead minimize or upper-bound the “ -robust regularization”, defined as the map from a point to the maximum value of the function within an -radius. This regularization may be easy to compute: convex quadratics lead to semidefinite-representable regularizations, for example, and the spectral radius of a matrix leads to ps...
