Background Intensity-modulated stereotactic radiotherapy achieves improvements in the ability to produce conformal stereotactic dose distributions by modulation of the intensity of individually delivered beamlets of radiation. Image-guided intensity-modulated stereotactic radiotherapy has emerged as a new treatment option in the multidisciplinary management of metastatic and locally advanced ca...
BACKGROUND To improve the delivery of radiotherapy in gynecologic malignancies and to minimize the irradiation of unaffected tissues by using daily kilovoltage cone beam computed tomography (kV-CBCT) to reduce setup errors. METHODS Thirteen patients with gynecologic cancers were treated with postoperative volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT). All patients had a planning CT scan and daily C...
Background: Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading global cause of cancer death among women worldwide. Radiotherapy plays a significant role in treatment of breast cancer and reduces locoregional recurrence and eventually improves survival. The treatment fields applied for breast cancer treatment include: tangential, axillary, supraclavicular and internal mammary ...

[20] Evaluation of the planning target volume in the treatment of head and neck cancer with intensity-modulated radiotherapy: What is the appropriate expansion margin in the setting of daily image guidance? Accurate and repeatable setup of patients is a requisite in radiotherapy. In the treatment of head-and-neck tumors, accurate setup is particularly important because of the proximity of the treatment volume to critical structures such as the spinal cord, brainstem, and parotid glands. When intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) is used, proximity of this kind between the target and normal organ...
Rotational setup errors are usually neglected in most clinical centers. An analytical formula is developed to determine the extra margin between clinical target volume (CTV) and planning target volume (PTV) to account for setup errors. The proposed formula corrects for both translational and rotational setup errors and then incorporated into margin determination for PTV.
INTRODUCTION Time-consuming manual methods have been required to register cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images with plans in the Pinnacle(3) treatment planning system in order to replicate delivered treatments for adaptive radiotherapy. These methods rely on fiducial marker (FM) placement during CBCT acquisition or the image mid-point to localise the image isocentre. A quality assurance ...
PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to determine dose delivery errors that could result from random and systematic setup errors for head-and-neck patients treated using the simultaneous integrated boost (SIB)-intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) technique. METHODS AND MATERIALS Twenty-four patients who participated in an intramural Phase I/II parotid-sparing IMRT dose-escalation prot...
