Radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation for treatment of hyperthyroidism in Pediatric Graves' disease is effective but limited literature exists regarding its long-term safety. There is no long-term prospective randomized controlled study on long-term safety of pediatric Graves' disease receiving RAI ablation. There are concerns regarding development of both thyroid and non-thyroidal malignancy, and ...

Using a sensitive radioactive method that measures selectively the evoked release of acetylcholine, it was demonstrated that, when stimulating at 50 Hz, tubocurarine or pancuronium 2 X 10(-5) mol litre-1 or hexamethonium 10(-3) mol litre-1 significantly decreased the evoked release of acetylcholine in the mouse in vitro phrenic nerve-hemidiaphragm preparation.

The objective of this study was to determine the contribution of endothelial cells to adenosine appearing in venous effluent of isolated perfused guinea pig hearts. The adenine nucleotide pool of endothelial cells was selectively labelled by infusing 3H-adenosine (5 X 10(-8) M) into the heart for 30 minutes. Selective labelling of the endothelial adenine nucleotides was confirmed by measuring t...

The investigation of the environmental radioactivity around the radioactive waste disposal site in Gyeongju is being carried out. The radioactivity of I in groundwater and seaweed are to be measured. The analytical method to measure the radioactivity of I in aqueous media was established. This method contains oxidation-reduction reaction, anion-exchange separation and palladium precipitation. T...

Development of facile synthesis strategies for high-quality lanthanidedoped upconversion nanoparticles with controlled composition, crystalline phase, shape, and size is crucial in tuning their chemical and optical properties and exploring their potential applications in diverse fields. This chapter focuses primarily on the formation mechanism of the crystallization (including nucleation and gr...

Parties try to shape media coverage in ways that are favorable to them, but what determines whether media outlets pick up and report on party messages? Based on content analyses of 1,496 party press releases and 6,512 media reports from the 2013 Austrian parliamentary election campaign, we show that media coverage of individual party messages is influenced not just by news factors, but also by ...

The simulation of radioactive pollutants dispersion is critical for emergency response of the nuclear terrorism. The radioactive “dirty bomb”, also called radiological dispersion device (RDD), produced and used by the terrorist to make fearful and radioactive pollution in general, has a great risk on humans. Numerical investigation of the impact of different configurations on radioactive pollut...

Several reports suggest that antimicrobial resistance is an increasing global problem; but like most pandemics, the greatest toll is in the less developed countries. The dismally low rate of discovery of antimicrobials compared to the rate of development of antimicrobial resistance places humanity on a very dangerous precipice. Since antimicrobial resistance is part of an organism's natural sur...
