This paper describes critical implementation issues that must be addressed to develop a fully automatic inliner. These issues are: integration into a compiler, program representation, hazard prevention, expansion sequence control, and program modi cation. An automatic interle inliner that uses pro le information has been implemented and integrated into an optimizing C compiler. The experimental...
Many compilers do some of their work by means of correctness-preserving, and hopefully performance-improving, program transformations. The Glasgow Haskell Compiler (GHC) takes this idea of \compilation by transformation" as its war-cry, trying to express as much as possible of the compilation process in the form of program transformations. This paper reports on our practical experience of the t...

We developed an OpenMP compiler, called Omni. This paper describes a performance evaluation of the Omni OpenMP compiler. We take two commercial OpenMP C compilers, the KAI GuideC and the PGI C compiler, for comparison. Microbenchmarks and a program in Parkbench are used for the evaluation. The results using a SUN Enterprise 450 with four processors show the performance of Omni is comparable to ...
In this paper we demonstrate how to relate the semantics given by the nondeterministic call-by-need calculus FUNDIO [SS03] to Haskell. After introducing new correct program transformations for FUNDIO, we translate the core language used in the Glasgow Haskell Compiler into the FUNDIO language, where the IO construct of FUNDIO corresponds to direct-call IO-actions in Haskell. We sketch the inves...
The Application of Compiler-based Obfuscation and Diversification for Program Signature Modification
Range analysis is a compiler technique that determines statically the lower and upper values that each integer variable from a target program may assume during this program’s execution. This type of inference is very important, because it enables several compiler optimizations, such as dead and redundant code elimination, bitwidth aware register allocation, and detection of program vulnerabilit...
In this paper we show how XSLT and aspect-oriented programming can be used to implement retargetable compilers. New devices can be specified using an XML-based device specification language. A retargeting generator produces a new compiler from this specification, actually it only produces a device specific kernel which is used by the compiler. Both the retargeting generator and the generated co...

An automatic inter-file inliner that uses profile information has been implemented and integrated into an optimizing C compiler. The experim...
By managing network resources at compile time, the compiled communication technique greatly improves the communication performance for communication patterns that are known at compile time. In order to support compiled communication, the compiler must estimate the runtime physical connection requirement (physical communication) of a program and partition the program into phases such that the un...
