Forecasting of wave height is necessary in a large number of ocean coastal activities. Recently, neural networks are used for prediction and approximation of wave heights in sea and ocean due to their great convergence rate. In this paper a cascade correlation neural network is used for prediction of wave heights at given times due to the useful capability of this network for prediction and app...

In this paper, two local approximation techniques for prediction are explored. First, a pattern recognition technique called Pattern Modelling and Recognition System (PMRS) is explored for making multiple forecasts. We then describe a single nearest neighbour based prediction system for multiple forecasting. Both models are based on using local neighbourhoods in data for making prediction. Mult...

The $L$-fuzzy approximation operator associated with an $L$-fuzzy approximation space $(X,R)$ turns out to be a saturated $L$-fuzzy closure (interior) operator on a set $X$ precisely when the relation $R$ is reflexive and transitive. We investigate the relations between $L$-fuzzy approximation spaces and $L$-(fuzzy) topological spaces.

Tree-matching problems arise in many computational domains. The literature provides several methods for creating correspondences between labeled trees; however, by definition, tree-matching algorithms rigidly preserve ancestry. That is, once two nodes have been placed in correspondence, their descendants must be matched as well. We introduce flexible tree matching, which relaxes this rigid requ...

The inverse protein folding problem is that of designing an amino acid sequence which has a prescribed native protein fold. This problem arises in drug design where a particular structure is necessary to ensure proper protein-protein interactions. The input to the inverse protein folding problem is a shape and the goal is to design a protein sequence with a unique native fold that closely appro...

Lattice QCD determinations appropriate to hadron spectroscopy are reviewed with emphasis on the glueball and hybrid meson states in the quenched approximation. Hybrids are discussed for heavy and for light quarks. The effects of sea quarks (unquenching) are explored. Heavy-light systems are presented particularly excited B mesons.

In this thesis we develop an analytical performance model for parallel computer systems. This model is built on three abstract performance elements; loading intensity, contention, and delay. These elements correspond to performance measures that are the outcome of features of both software and hardware components of a computing system. The pro le of these components can in turn be derived from ...
