Occasional reports over the past several decades have indicated that coagulase production by Staphylococcus aureus (Microcuccus pyogenes var. aureus), in various media could be enhanced by the addition of whole blood or plasma (Fisher, 1936). MIore recently, attempts have been made to produce special media which would permit the elaboration of coagulase but little success has been achieved (Lom...

Vaginal tampons were shown to be a practical alternative to conventional Moore swabs for isolating Vibrio cholerae from sewage. Associated laboratory investigations demonstrated improved isolation of V. cholerae by using 12- or 18-h enrichments in alkaline peptone water, in comparison with 6-h enrichments, when cultures were incubated at ambient temperatures.

A protocol was established for mass clonal propagation of Phalaenopsis amabilis cv. 'Golden horizon' through in vitro culture of young leaf segments from mature plant. Explants were cultured on half strength Murashige and Skoog (1/2 MS) medium supplemented with N6-benzyladenine (2.0 mg l-1), a-naphthaleneaceetic acid (0.5 mg l-1), 2% (w/v) sucrose, 10% (v/v) coconut water, 2 g l-1 peptone and 1...

The conditions that cause the development of symptoms of frenching in tobacco {Nicotiana tabacum L.) plants are unknown. Low nitrogen, ^ low acidity, and excessive moisture ^ have at times been held to be contributing factors. Nevertheless soil from fields of severely frenched plants was often incapable of producing this morphological abnormality in the greenhouse. Abnormal plants transplanted ...

The pancreatic substance containing insulin1 used in the experiments recorded below was prepared from the pancreas of hogs according to the method developed2 by Mr. George B. Walden of the Lilly Research Laboratories, and which has been published by the Council of Pharmacy and Chemistry of the American Medical Association.3 This experiment, which is an extension of Mr. Walden’s work, was starte...

1. Fibroblasts and epithelial cells in pure culture obtain the nitrogen, which they build into protoplasm, from proteoses and possibly other primary derivatives of proteins. These proteoses have been prepared from embryo tissues, egg white, commercial fibrin, rabbit brain, Witte's peptone, etc. 2. The presence in embryo juice of a hormone that stimulates cell division is improbable. 3. Proteose...

Protein interations are presently required to understand the mechanisms of in vitro maturation, fertilization and culture of sheep embryoes through in silico analysis. The present work has been conducted on TCM-199 supplemented with epidermal growth factor (EGF), fetal bovine serum (FBS) or wheat peptones The maturation rate of oocyte was significantly higher in the FBS supplemented group when ...

1. Both normal and sarcomatous fibroblasts of the rat utilize many different fragments of the protein molecule for their growth in vitro. Alpha and beta proteoses have approximately equal growth-promoting power. 2. A mixture of peptones, peptides, and amino acids, containing a negligible quantity of proteose, produces a temporary proliferation of normal fibroblasts, and an unlimited multiplicat...
