It is argued that photochemical processes, driven by ultraviolet starlight, could lead to large deuterium fractionation for H2O and CH4 relative to H2 in the primitive solar nebula. Implications for deuterium enrichment observed in planetary atmospheres are briefly discussed.

Abstract. Hydroxymethanesulfonate (HMS) has recently been identified as an abundant organosulfur compound in aerosols during winter haze episodes northern China. It also detected other regions although the concentrations are low. Because of sparse field measurements, global significance HMS and its spatial seasonal patterns remain unclear. Here, we modify add to implementation chemistry GEOS-Ch...

In order to evaluate the effects of both cold and light stresses on chlorophyll fluorescence and feasibility of using chlorophyll florescence technique to evaluate effect of light intensity on cold tolerance in soybean, an experiment was done in a factorial arrangement based on a completely randomized design with three replicates. Two soybean cultivars consisted of 032 and BP grown under greenh...

Photochemical synthesis of highly reactive hydroperoxides and their conversion into useful products, such as 1,2,4-trioxanes, are wide interest for synthetic organic chemistry pharmaceutical manufacturing particularly because relevance potential antimalarial anticancer treatment drugs, example, Artemisinin. One class drugs is based on 1,2,4-trioxane scaffolds although production compounds a gra...

The "edge" of the Antarctic polar vortex is known to behave as a barrier to the meridional (poleward) transport of ozone during the austral winter. This chemical isolation of the polar vortex from the middle and low latitudes produces an ozone minimum in the vortex region, intensifying the ozone hole relative to that which would be produced by photochemical processes alone. Observational determ...

Understanding new particle formation and their subsequent growth in the troposphere has a critical impact on our ability to predict atmospheric composition and global climate change. High pre-existing particle loadings have been thought to suppress the formation of new atmospheric aerosol particles due to high condensation and coagulation sinks. Here, based on field measurements at a mountain s...

The colonic lumen is likely to contain oxidants derived from unabsorbed dietary materials including transition metals, rancid fat, drugs and bacterial metabolites. The present study looks at the effect of luminal exposure of different oxidants on colonic mucosal lipid peroxidation and absorptive function. All the oxidants tested induced fluid and electrolyte secretion and indomethacin, a prosta...

Introduction: One crucial discovery by the 2009 NASA Phoenix Lander was the detection of perchlorate at ~1% in the surface Martian regolith [1]. High concentrations of perchlorate may oxidize organics on Mars and be problematic during extraction of organics during future in situ investigations. High temperature pyrolytic extraction methods will likely result in catalytic degradation of organics...
