In this paper we present a new approach for building RDF schemas by integrating existing ontologies and structured vocabularies (thesauri). We will present a simple mechanism based on the specification of inclusion relationships between thesaurus terms and ontology concepts and show how these relationships can be exploited to create applicationspecific RDF schemas incorporating the structural v...

This paper describes a method for converting existing thesauri and related resources from their native format to RDF(S) and OWL. The method identifies four steps in the conversion process. In each step, decisions have to be taken with respect to the syntax or semantics of the resulting representation. Each step is supported through a number of guidelines. The method is illustrated through conve...

The process of building and maintaining thesauri, especially in corporate settings, quite often cannot be justified due to its unfavourable cost-benefit ratio. Combining different approaches to build thesauri like text-mining, machine learning, expert driven thesaurus modelling and linking open data seems to be a promising methodology to overcome this obstacle. This paper gives an overview over...

In this article, we first propose to exploit a new criterion for improving distributional thesauri. Following a bootstrapping perspective, we select relations between the terms of similar nominal compounds for building in an unsupervised way the training set of a classifier performing the reranking of a thesaurus. Then, we evaluate several ways to combine thesauri reranked according to differen...

Gazetteers are catalogs of geographic features, typically classified using a feature type thesaurus. Integrating gazetteers is an issue that requires some strategy to deal with multiple thesauri, which represent different classifications for the geographic domain. This paper proposes an instancebased approach to define mapping rates between terms of distinct feature type thesauri in order to en...

Nowadays, many daily human activities such as education, trade, talks, etc are done by using the Internet. In such things as registration on Internet web sites, hackers write programs to make automatic false registration that waste the resources of the web sites while it may also stop it from functioning. Therefore, human users should be distinguished from computer programs. To this end, this p...

Nowadays, Wordnet is used in natural language processing as one of the major linguistic resources. Having such a resource for Persian language helps researchers in computational linguistics and natural language processing fields to develop more accurate systems with higher performances. In this research, we propose a model for semi-automatic construction of Persian wordnet of verbs. Compound ve...

We use Pregroups to provide an algebraic analysis of Persian sentences. Our analysis hints to some of the profound and subtle properties of the Persian grammar, e.g. similarity of its parsing patterns to Hindi (both descendants of of Sanskrit) and similarity in parsing patterns of its causal subordinate and relative sentences. These findings are facilitated by the use of reduction diagrams, a f...

In statistical machine translation, data sparsity is a challenging problem especially for languages with rich morphology and inconsistent orthography, such as Persian. We show that orthographic preprocessing and morphological segmentation of Persian verbs in particular improves the translation quality of Persian-English by 1.9 BLEU points on a blind test set.
