This randomised, non-blinded study evaluated a vibrating bladder stimulator to facilitate collection of a urine sample from pre-continent children. The use of a bladder stimulator produced no significant time improvements in any of the analysed parameters (n = 97). We identify a population of patients who may benefit from some form of bladder stimulation.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to compare electrophysiologically guided and traditional nerve stimulator analgesia femoral nerve block after total knee arthroplasty. METHODS Patients scheduled for unilateral total knee arthroplasty were randomized to electrophysiologically guided or traditional nerve stimulator analgesia by pre-emptive single injection femoral nerve block with corre...

BACKGROUND The lower limb muscle may play an important role in decreasing the heart's pumping workload. Aging and inactivity cause atrophy and weakness of the muscle, leading to a loss of the heart-assisting role. An electrical lower limb muscle stimulator can prevent atrophy and weakness more effectively than conventional resistance training; however, it has been reported to increase the heart...

Immunoglobulin (Ig) is present on a large fraction of T cells from unfractionated lymphocytes activated by in vitro stimulation with H-2-incompatible cells (mixed lymphocyte reaction [MLR]). Removal of bursa equivalent-derived (B) cells from the responder cell population before mixed culture, by filtration through nylon wool columns, reduces the percentage of Ig-bearing responder T blasts to ba...

BACKGROUND Anterior sacral root stimulation combined with sacral posterior rhizotomy restores bladder function in spinal cord-injured patients suffering from hyperactive bladder. After successful implantation of bladder stimulator, urinary infection rate decreases, and patients are able to get rid of indwelling urinary catheters, which in turn reduce the risks for vesical malignancy. We present...

OBJECTIVES To describe use of bilateral temporal and occipital stimulator leads for a refractory headache disorder. MATERIALS AND METHODS A 31-year-old female had a 10-year history of chronic, severe occipital and temporal region headaches. The patient underwent permanent implant of an occipital stimulator system that resulted in sustained, compete resolution of her occipital pain. However, s...

background: the predictive roles of follicle stimulating hormone (fsh), anti-mullerian hormone (amh) and antral follicle count (afc) as ovarian reserve markers in women with different age groups are not established well. objective: this study compares the value of fsh, amh and afc at the time of     in vitro fertilization (ivf) treatment in different age groups. materials and methods: in this c...

A simple contact stimulator designed to provide quantitative assessments of thermal sensitivity of digital skin is described. The skin is tested at its normal resting temperature and thermal thresholds are given as the least differences in temperature between the skin and the stimulator which give rise to warm or cool sensations.

BACKGROUND Long-term use of a foot-drop stimulator applying functional electrical stimulation (FES) to the common peroneal nerve improves walking performance even when the stimulator is off. This "therapeutic" effect might result from neuroplastic changes. OBJECTIVE To determine the effect of long-term use of a foot-drop stimulator on residual corticospinal connections in people with central ...
