We report for the first time to our knowledge the experimental achievement of storage ring free-electron laser (FEL) oscillations on the third harmonic in the wide infrared region. The FELs were oscillated in the wavelength regions of 852-881 nm and 1510-1551 nm. The measured linewidth of the third-harmonic FEL was narrower than that of the fundamental FEL owing to the narrower spectral width o...
What may be the first detailed cold test and computer simulation analysis of a Double Sheet Beam Klystron (DSBK) was performed at SLAC. The device was conceptually designed mechanically, and evaluated electrically for beam formation, gain, stability and efficiency. It is believed that the DSBK can be built at a relatively low cost for a future NLC collider and can produce at least 150 MW at 11....
Relativistic klystrons are being developed as a power source for high gradient accelerator applications which include large linear electron-positron colliders, compact accelerators, and FEL sources. We have attained 200MW peak power ‘at 11.4 GHz from a relativistic klystron, and 140MV/m longitudinal gradient in a short 11.4 GHz accelerator section. We report here on the design of our first klys...
The Binary Pulse Compression system installed at SLAC was tested using two klystrons, one with 10 MW and the other with 34 MW output. By compressing 56@ ns klystron pulses into 70 ns, the measured BPC output wss 175 MW, limited by the available power from the two klystrons. This output was used to provide 10GMW input to a 36cell X-band structure in which a lOO-MV/m gradient was obtained. This s...
Relativistic klystrons are being developed as an rf power source for high gradient accelerators applications which include large linear electronpositron colliders, compact accelerators, and FEL sources. In a relativistic klystron two-beam accelerator (RK-TBA), the drive beam passes through a large number of rf output structures. High conversion efficiency of electron beam energy to rf energy ca...
Klystrons capable of 75 MW output power at 11.4 GHz have been under development at SLAC for the last decade. The work has been part of the program to realize all the components necessary for the construction of the Next Linear Collider (NLC). The effort has produced a family of solenoid-focused 50 MW klystrons, which are currently powering a 0.5 GeV test accelerator at SLAC and several test sta...
The very first klystron in the XC series, (XCl), The SLAC design for a l-TeV collider (NLC) requires klystrons with a performance which is well beyond the state-of-the-art for microwave tubes in the United States or abroad. The electrical specifications for the NLC klystrons are not fully established, but they are approximately as follows: Frequency: Peak Power:
An overmoded photonic crystal resonant cavity with two dimensional dielectric lattice structures is proposed and simulated. The dominant mode is a higher-order TM03-like at the frequency of 31.14 GHz, the fundamental mode and most other modes are not supported by the cavity. The structure would be potential for application in accelerator, gyrotron and klystron in Ka-band. DOI: 10.2529/PIERS0610...
