A sort of gravitational waveguide effect in cosmol-ogy could explain some anomalous phenomena which cannot be understood by the current gravitational lensing models as the existence of " twins " objects with similar spectra and redshifts posed on the sky with large angular distance. Furthermore, the huge luminosities of quasars could be explained using filamen-tary or planar cosmological struct...

T here is a whole world of smartphone apps out there. It’s impossible to weed through all of them. Some of the best apps I have were recommended by a friend or colleague or even an airplane seatmate! So I asked some of our Journal of the Advanced Practitioner in Oncol ogy (JADPRO) readers about their favorite smartphone apps, and we came up with some really useful ones. All of these apps are av...

Let X be a proper hyperbolic geodesic metric space of bounded growth and let G be a closed subgroup of the isometry group Iso(X) of X. We show that if G is not amenable then the second continuous bounded cohomol-ogy group H 2 cb (G, L 2 (G)) does not vanish. As an application, we derive some structure results for closed subgroups of Iso(X).

Advancements in endoscopic technol ogy and techniques have increased our ability to characterize the etiology of pancreatic cysts. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), a relatively new technology, uses an ultrasound probe at the tip of an endoscope to provide high-quality, detailed images of structures in and around the gastrointestinal tract. During the procedure, an echoendo scope is advanced into ...

Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG), formerly called giant cell reparative granuloma, is a non-neoplastic proliferative lesion of unknown etiol-ogy. It occurs most commonly in the mandible. The case reported here resembled a wide variety of conditions that led to a misdiagnosis both on clinical and radiographic examinations but was histopathologically diagnosed as CGCG. We describe a case of CG...

The buccal fat pad (BFP) has become more and more popular in oral and maxillofa‐ cial surgery. Originally, it was described as an anatomic structure without any obvious function; it was even considered to be a surgical nuisance. Nowadays, the most reported application of the BFP is the closure of oroantral communications. In this chapter, different aspects of the BFP such as its applications, a...

The innationary scenarios suggested by the duality properties of string cosmol-ogy in the Brans-Dicke (or String) frame are shown to correspond to accelerated contraction (deeation) when Weyl-transformed to the Einstein frame. We point out that the basic virtues of innation (solving the atness and horizon problems, amplifying vacuum uctuations) have physically equivalent counterparts in the de-...
