We report the study of optically induced terahertz (THz) electromagnetic radiation from (110) oriented zinc-blende crystals. This work extends our previous studies of (100) and (111) GaAs. Excellent agreement between calculated results and experimental data indicates that, under conditions of moderate optical fluence and normal incidence on the unbiased sample, second-order optical rectificatio...

Instabilities of the bunch form in storage rings may be induced through the wake field arising from corrugations in the vacuum chamber, or from the wake and precursor fields due to coherent synchrotron radiation (CSR). For over forty years the linearized Vlasov equation has been applied to calculate the threshold in current for an instability, and the initial growth rate. Increasing interest in...

We present a nonlinear theory for relativistic x-ray free-electron lasers in the quantum regime, using a collective Klein-Gordon (KG) equation (for relativistic electrons), which is coupled with the Maxwell-Poisson equations for the electromagnetic and electrostatic fields. In our model, an intense electromagnetic wave is used as a wiggler which interacts with a relativistic electron beam to pr...

Tunable coherent radiation was produced at 35.5 nm by seventh-harmonic conversion of 248-nm radiation from a krypton fluoride excimer laser. The nonlinear interaction took place at the intersection of the laser focus and a pulsed, supersonic helium gas jet. Third- and fifth-harmonic generation produced coherent outputs at 83 and 50 nm in both helium and xenon gas jets.

In this study, a simple and accurate solution for the temperature distribution of convective-radiative straight rectangular fins with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity is presented using an analytical method called the Differential Transformation Method (DTM). The governing differential equation for the temperature distribution in present problem contains two nonlinear terms, one due t...

We study parametric frequency conversion in quadratic nonlinear media with disordered ferroelectric domains. We demonstrate that disorder allows realizing broadband third-harmonic generation via cascading of two second-order quasi-phase matched nonlinear processes. We analyze both spatial and polarization properties of the emitted radiation and find the results in agreement with our theoretical...

We discuss the key important regimes of electromagnetic field interaction with charged particles. Main attention is paid to the nonlinear Thomson/Compton scattering regime with the radiation friction and quantum electrodynamics effects taken into account. This process opens a channel of high efficiency electromagnetic energy conversion into hard electromagnetic radiation in the form of ultra sh...

INTRODUCTION. The observation of ultra-broadband supercontinuum generation in gases was first reported by Corkum et al. [1]. The possibility to produce high energy white-light continua (WLC) using ultra-short pulses has sparked interest in applications such as remote sensing in the atmosphere [2] and nonlinear spectroscopy [3]. In contrast to white-light generation in solid-state fibers, the na...

The radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs) produced by widely used mobile phones are classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Current data on the relationship between exposure to RF-EMFs generated by commercial mobile phones and brain cancer are controversial. Our studies show that this controversy may be caused by several par...

We show that photorefractive waveguide devices are subject to a limitation on their holographic storage capability owing to transversely nonuniform nonlinear losses to evanescent and radiation modes.
