Bridges are potentially one of the most seismically vulnerable structures in the highway system during earthquake &#10 &#10events. It is known that the seismic performance of transportation systems plays a key role in the post-earthquake emergency management. Hence, it is necessary to evaluate both physical and functional aspects of bridge structures. The physical aspects of the seismic perform...

The flow duration curve (FDC) represents the frequency distribution of water flow over a period of time, which is widely used in hydrology to evaluate different ranges of river water flow applications. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a suitable estimation model and method in un-gauged watersheds. To this end, in the present study, a modeling method based on nonlinear regression, for the p...

In the complexity and simulation communities there is growing support for the use of bottom-up computer-based simulation in the analysis of complex systems. The presumption is that because these models are more complex than their linear predecessors they must be more suited to the modeling of systems that appear, superficially at least, to be (compositionally and dynamically) complex. Indeed th...

in the present paper the behavior of an elastically mounted cylinder in low and high mass-damping ratio is investigated. for high mass-damping ratio, a classical wake oscillator model is used. at the first, by neglecting all damping and nonlinear terms of this model, the possibility of using a linear model for determination of the lock-in range and the dominant mode is investigated. then, witho...

Modeling and identification of mechanical systems constitute an essential stage in practical control design and applications. Controllers commanding systems that operate at varying conditions or require high precision operation raise the need for a nonlinear approach in modeling and identification. Most mechanical systems used in industry are composed of masses moving under the action of positi...

recently, a large amount of studies have been related to nonlinear systems with multi-degrees of freedom as well as continuous systems. the purpose of this paper is to optimize passive vibration absorbers in linear and nonlinear states for an euler-bernoulli beam with a nonlinear vibratory behavior under concentrated moving load. the goal parameter in the optimization is maximum deflection of t...

The nonlinear dynamical system modeling the immobilized enzyme kinetics with Michaelis-Menten mechanism for an irreversible reaction without external mass transfer resistance is considered. Laplace transform homotopy perturbation method is used to obtain the approximate solution of the governing nonlinear differential equation, which consists in determining the series solution convergent to the...

Modeling of large amplitude of structures such as slender, flexible cantilever beam and fluid-structure resting on nonlinear elastic foundations or subjected to stretching effects often lead to strongly nonlinear models of Duffing equations which are not amendable to exact analytical methods. In this work, explicit analytical solutions to the large amplitude nonlinear oscillation systems of cub...

The paper investigates the possibility of modeling the highly nonlinear and very complex Sorensen model, [1], of Type 1 diabetic patients using the polytopic LPV modeling possibility. It is illustrated that the LPV model is working correctly only in the considered polytope region, but inside it is approximating well the nonlinear model.

In the framework of nonlinear process modeling, we propose training algorithms for feedback wavelet networks used as nonlinear dynamic models. An original initialization procedure is presented, that takes the locality of the wavelet functions into account. Results obtained for the modeling of several processes are presented; a comparison with networks of neurons with sigmoidal functions is perf...
