The antimycotic agent amphotericin B (AmB) functions by forming complexes with sterols to form ion channels that cause membrane leakage. When AmB and cholesterol mixed at 2:1 ratio were incorporated into phospholipid bilayer membranes formed on the tip of patch pipettes, ion channel current fluctuations with characteristic open and closed states were observed. These channels were also functiona...

The crush behaviors of steel tubes filled with nanoporous-materials-functionalized liquids are experimentally investigated under quasi-static and dynamic conditions. Results show that the nanoporous-materials-functionalized liquid can enhance the load-carrying and the energy absorption capacities of thin-walled tubes, as the buckling mode is affected. The effective buckling stress increases wit...

Two-dimensional (2D) graphene emerged as an outstanding material for plasmonic and photonic applications due to its charge-density tunability, high electron mobility, optical transparency and mechanical flexibility. Recently, novel fabrication processes have realised a three-dimensional (3D) nanoporous configuration of high-quality monolayer graphene which provides a third dimension to this mat...

Holey photonic crystal (PC) microcapsules are generated through a combined technique of microfluidic- and controlled-photopolymerization. This versatile route allows the fine tuning of shell structure (from well-ordered nanoporous to single-hole structures with tailored hole size) by etching or by varying UV light intensity, and endowing the PC microcapsules with multifunctional properties.

Here, we prepared LiMn0.8Fe0.2PO4 microspheres with an open three-dimensional nanoporous structure by a facile ion-exchange solvothermal method. The micro/nano-structured material exhibits an ultralong cycle life, and retains a reversible capacity of 105 mA h g(-1) after 1000 cycles at 5 C, corresponding to the capacity retention of 94.0% and only 0.0068 mA h g(-1) loss per cycle.

The thermal behaviour of the nanoporous iron(iii) terephthalate MIL-53 is in stark contrast to its chromium and aluminium analogues which show an expansion of the cell during dehydration; with iron, reversible dehydration occurs via evolution of the structure through a highly distorted metastable anhydrous phase to a more regular phase above 423 K in which pore volume remains approximately cons...

We present a feasible approach to the direct development of three-dimensionally (3D) bicontinuous gyroid (GYR) nanostructure in high-molecular-weight, composition-controlled polystyrene-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) films. The use of a neutral solvent vapor to elaborately control the swelling of block copolymer (BCP) films is essential to generate a direct pathway to GYR (or giant GYR...

This paper presents titanium dioxide nanostructured surfaces prepared in organic electrolytes containing ammonium fluoride by anodic oxidation method. Two approaches were used for fabrication, one-step and two-step anodization. The obtained TiO2 surfaces have nanoporous structure. The morphology of anodized TiO2 nanostructures was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Nanoporous silicas having some periodicity, high surface area (up to 1230 m(2) g(-1)), and pore diameters near the boundary between micro- and mesopores are synthesized using aromatic compounds bearing anionic end-groups as novel structure-directing agents (SDAs) that can facilitate multiple interactions between SDAs, co-SDAs and silica frameworks orthogonally.
