Conductive titania nanofibres supporting Pt nanoparticles were synthesised in a one-pot method based on the electrospinning technique. The dimensions of both the oxide fibres and platinum particles were tuneable, leading to versatile nanomaterials with possible applications as electrodes for energy conversion devices.
We report a novel gelator functionalised with hydrazides (as replacements for carboxylic acids) which, as a result, is able to assemble into hydrogels across a wide pH range - this gelator exhibits pH-switchable dye adsorption-desorption dependent on protonation of the target dyes and their resulting interactions with the self-assembled gel nanofibres.
We synthesized platelet graphitic-nanofibres (GNFs) directly onto FTO glass and applied this forest of platelet GNFs as a highly porous structural counter-electrode in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). We investigated the electrochemical properties of counter-electrodes made from the highly porous structural GNFs and the photoconversion performance of the cells made with these electrodes.
Ceramic membranes were fabricated by in situ synthesis of alumina nanofibres in the pores of an alumina support as a separation layer, and exhibited a high permeation selectivity for bovine serum albumin relative to bovine hemoglobin (over 60 times) and can effectively retain DNA molecules at high fluxes.
Amino acid interlinked pyrene and naphthalenediimide (NDI) based novel donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) triads are designed to exploit their topological symmetry and complementary π-character for facile charge-transfer complexation. Consequently, free-floating high-aspect-ratio supercoiled nanofibres and hierarchical helical bundles of triads are realized by modulating the chemical functionality of...
Self-assembled peptide-polymer nanotapes of poly(ethylene oxide)-peptide conjugates are modified by a simple amine-azide transfer to create azide-containing nanofibres, which provide a platform for modular functionalization as demonstrated by the introduction of different carboxyl bearing entities to modulate the calcium binding properties of the nanotapes.

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanofibres were obtained by electrospinning of PVA/water solutions. Formation of beaded fibres combined with decreased fibre diameters was observed for low PVA concentrations. Electrospinning of blends of PVA of different molecular weight resulted in less bead formation and smaller fibre diameters as compared to corresponding homopolymers of similar viscosity.
The reliable production of carbon nanotubes and nanofibres is a relatively new development, and due to their unique structure, there has been much interest in filling their hollow interiors. In this review, we provide an overview of the most common approaches for filling these carbon nanostructures. We highlight that filled carbon nanostructures are an emerging material for biomedical applicati...
