Prokaryotic organisms of the genus Mycoplasma are characterized by their small body and genome size containing a 0.6-1.35 M bp genome. The genome is noted for its low G+C frequency ranging from 8-40 mol%. The Mycoplasma genus stems from the class Mollicutes (for soft skin), which lacks the cell walls and external motility appendages often present in other bacteria. To date, there are more than ...

OBJECTIVES Environmental factors, such as different infections, have proposed to be involved in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). This study aimed to the evaluate mycoplasma pneumonia seropositivity, as a common cause of community-acquired pneumonia in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). METHODOLOGY Using ELISA method, IgM and IgG antibodies to Mycoplasma p...

An indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) technique was developed to detect IgG and IgM-specific antibodies to Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The presence of IgM-specific mycoplasma antibody was interpreted as reflecting active infection in patients with atypical pneumonia or other clinically compatible illness. The procedure is suitable for use in routine clinical laboratories, correlated well with compl...

PURPOSE Previous studies have outlined mechanisms by which Mycoplasma pneumonia (M. pneumonia) infection may promote allergic lung inflammation and airway remodeling, and increasing evidence from human studies suggests that atypical bacterial infections contribute to asthma exacerbation, chronic asthma, and disease severity with changes in cytokine expression. The present study evaluated change...
