An algorithm with linear filters and morphological operations has been proposed for automatic fabric defect detection. The algorithm is applied off-line and real-time to denim fabric samples for five types of defects. All defect types have been detected successfully and the defective regions are labeled. The defective fabric samples are then classified by using feed forward neural network metho...

In this paper a robust method for color image restoration is proposed. The proposed method is a multichannel extension of a technique (i.e. statistical morphology) proposed in literature for restoring monochromatic images and it takes into account that RGB components of a multichannel image are not completely independent. In this paper the advantages of using the proposed method with respect to...

We present a digit-serial architecture for gray-scale morphological operations that operate on radix-2 redundant numbers. We present new implementations for a redundant number adder and a maximum unit that are used in the morphological dilation unit. These new designs have areas comparable to 2's complement implementations but have significantly smaller latencies.

Context. CCD images obtained by space-based astronomy and solar physics are frequently spoiled by galactic and solar cosmic rays, and particles in the Earth’s radiation belt, which produces an overlaid, often saturated, speckle. Aims. We describe the development and application of a new image-processing technique for the removal of this noise source, and apply it to SOHO/LASCO coronagraph image...

In the absence of a pure noise-free image it is hard to define what noise is, in any original noisy image, and as a consequence also where it is, and in what amount. In fact, the definition of noise depends largely on our own aim in the whole image analysis process, and (perhaps more important) in our self-perception of noise. For instance, when we perceive noise as disconnected and small it is...

In this paper a methodology to restore gray scale images with pixels polluted by random impulsive noise is presented. Noise is discovered using a criterion based on the white top-hat by reconstruction. Pixels detected as corrupted are restored using an iterative morphological algorithm built with extensive and antiextensive morphological transformations. The proposal is compared with the rank o...

In this paper, a license plate detection system is implemented. For this purpose, we improve the contrast at possible locations where there might be a license plate, we propose a filtering method called ''region-based'' in order to smooth the uniform and background areas of an image, we apply the Sobel operator and morphological filtering to extract the vertical edges and the candidate regions ...

In this paper we consider speedup potential of morphological image filtering on ARM processors. Morphological operations are widely used in image analysis and recognition and their speedup in some cases can significantly reduce overall execution time of recognition. More specifically, we propose fast implementation of erosion and dilation using ARM SIMD extension NEON. These operations with the...
