A single-crystal Nd:YAG fiber with polished and coated endfaces has been operated as a monolithic, guided-wave laser oscillator. The 47-microm-diameter, 7-mm-length fiber oscillator operated with a threshold of 3.7 mW and a slope efficiency of 10.5%. Seventy-five percent of the laser power was in the fundamental spatial mode.

We have generated picosecond opfic1 pulses with very pure spectral characteristics using semiconductor lasers with monolithic cavities. Fx repetition rates less than 10 GHz, gain-switching of DFB lasers with quantum well loss-gratings is usul. Monolithic colliding pulse mode-locked semiconductor lasers are used to generate short pulses with repetition rate up to 350GHz.

An immobilised iridium hydrogen transfer catalyst has been developed for use in flow based processing by incorporation of a ligand into a porous polymeric monolithic flow reactor. The monolithic construct has been used for several redox reductions demonstrating excellent recyclability, good turnover numbers and high chemical stability giving negligible metal leaching over extended periods of use.

A novel cascade electro-osmotic pump (EOP) has been fabricated by alternately connecting a cation monolithic column and anion monolithic column in series.
