The UV-Vis absorption spectrum and LIF emission spectrum of I2 were found for the purpose of gaining information about the energy of the ground X( 1 Σg + ) and excited B( 3 Π0u + ) states. This information was compared to information obtained from the Gaussian program which uses quantum mechanical calculations and numerical approximations to predict electronic energy levels. The iodine molecule...
We have measured the circular polarization of light emitted from both atomic H and molecular H2 after bombarding H2 with longitudinally polarized electrons. For both atomic and molecular fluorescence near threshold we observe a circular polarization as great as 10% of the electron polarization. This represents the first direct observation of spin transfer in electron-molecule collisions.
The question whether two proteins interact with each other or whether a protein localizes to a certain region of the cell is often addressed with fluorescence microscopy and analysis of a potential colocalization of fluorescence markers. Since a mere visual estimation does not allow quantification of the degree of colocalization, different statistical methods of pixel-intensity correlation are ...
The ketone group of the traditional push–pull dye Laurdan is replaced with a malononitrile group. new probe less bright than due to large drop in fluorescence quantum yield but functions well as molecular rotor.
Fluorescence polarization (FP) is a fluorescence detection technique that is based on the observation that fluorescent molecules, when excited by plane polarized light, will emit plane polarized light. In solution, proteins are free to rotate, thus the plane of polarized light emitted can change based on the fluorescence lifetime of the fluorophore in question and the extent of rotation the mol...
Fluorescence microscopy allows real-time monitoring of optical molecular probes for disease characterization, drug development, and tissue regeneration. However, when a biological sample is thicker than 1 mm, intense scattering of light would significantly degrade the spatial resolution of fluorescence microscopy. In this paper, we develop a fluorescence microtomography technique that utilizes ...
We establish fluorescence fluctuation spectroscopy (FFS) with nanoscale detection volumes generated by stimulated emission depletion. Our method applies fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and fluorescence intensity distribution analysis to extract molecular information about mobilities and fluorescence emission in solution. The combination of correlation analysis with that of photon intensit...
The temperature-dependent dual fluorescence from a single component of small organic molecules (SOMs) is very promising for the ratiometric sensing temperature. However, SOM-based fluorophores typically only show one band. It thus challenging to achieve fluorescence, let alone that sensitive Herein, in this short review, we briefly summarized examples exhibiting fluorescence. Through representa...
Recent technological advances in cutting-edge ultrasensitive fluorescence microscopy have allowed single-molecule imaging experiments in living cells across all three domains of life to become commonplace. Single-molecule live-cell data is typically obtained in a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime sometimes only marginally in excess of 1, in which a combination of detector shot noise, sub-o...
