Background & Aims of the Study: The main objectives of the current research were (1) to study the extent of soil pollution by heavy metals (Ag, Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn, Ba and Li) in sampling locations (2) to investigate the extent of heavy metal pollution and soil to plant transfer of these elements in wheat and barley (3) to study the health risk of heavy metals via consum...

Dam construction causes the accumulation of phosphorus in the sediments of reservoirs and increases the release rate of internal phosphorus (P) loading. This study investigated the longitudinal variability of phosphorus fractions in sediments and the relationship between the contents of phosphorus fractions and its influencing factors of the Manwan Reservoir, Lancang River, Yunnan Province, Chi...

Engineering enhanced transport of zinc to the aerial parts of plants is a major goal in bio-fortification. In Arabidopsis halleri, high constitutive expression of the AhHMA4 gene encoding a metal pump of the P(1B)-ATPase family is necessary for both Zn hyperaccumulation and the full extent of Zn and Cd hypertolerance that are characteristic of this species. In this study, an AhHMA4 cDNA was int...

Heavy metals including cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) are entering agricultural soils from different routes and mainly due to human activities. Accumulated Cd and Pb in the soil would eventually enter the human and animal food chains and pose threat to their health. Therefore, evaluating heavy metal accumulation is necessary to prevent soil and environmental pollutions and should be considered by r...

We demonstrate the successful application of DNA thin films as dynamic bio-spacers in a surface plasmon-coupled emission platform. Site-directed DNA modification using silver and carbon nanomaterials resulted in an amplified Purcell factor (PF) and >130-fold fluorescence enhancements. We present unique architectures of DNA as a plasmonic spacer in metal-dielectric-metal substrates.

An ideal plant for environmental cleanup can be envisioned as one with high biomass production, combined with superior capacity for pollutant tolerance, accumulation, and/or degradation, depending on the type of pollutant and the phytoremediation technology of choice. With the use of genetic engineering, it is feasible to manipulate a plant’s capacity to tolerate, accumulate, and/or metabolize ...

background: heavy metals tend to bioaccumulate in living organisms, and their accumulation has been a major concern. as mammals are known to excrete heavy metals via their bile, it seems to be very promising to analyse metal burdens of par-asites that infect the biliary tree such as liver flukes of the genus fasciola . the pre-sent study was carried out to evaluate f. hepatica and f. gigantica ...

Lead and cadmium accumulation examined in shoot and leaf tissues of seedlings of mustard (Brassica juncea cv RH-30), at 7th day, treated with either putrescine (1 mM), or ammonium nitrate (10 mM) or IAA (10 microM). These were included in the nutrient medium, containing Pb or Cd (0.1 mM and 2 mM). Metal accumulation was more in shoot than in leaf tissues, which was increased manifold under sali...
