Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) aneurysm is one of the rare visceral aneurysm with different clinical manifestations. There are few reported cases worldwide, each being reported in a specific situation. In this paper, a rare case of disease with fistulization of SMA to jejunum, causing massive GI bleeding is reported. Having DSA studies completed, the patient was operated and SMA was ligated...
OBJECTIVE Visceral artery aneurysms are rare vascular malformations and the literature lacks satisfactory general information about the pathology. The aim of this study was to review our experiences in the diagnosis and treatment of visceral artery aneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed data on 10 patients who were diagnosed with visceral artery aneurysms at our institut...
Xu, Chuanli, Yanjie Lu, Guanghua Tang, and Rui Wang. Expression of voltage-dependent K1 channel genes in mesenteric artery smooth muscle cells. Am. J. Physiol. 277 (Gastrointest. Liver Physiol. 40): G1055–G1063, 1999.— Molecular basis of native voltage-dependent K1 (Kv) channels in smooth muscle cells (SMCs) from rat mesenteric arteries was investigated. The whole cell patch-clamp study reveale...
Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) delivered over 1 week results in a sustained fall in blood pressure in the sham and deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt rat. We hypothesized 5-HT lowers blood pressure through direct receptor-mediated vascular relaxation. In vivo, 5-HT reduced mean arterial pressure (MAP), increased heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac index, and reduced total peripheral ...
BACKGROUND There are 2 interpretations of Riolan's arch: (1) Riolan's arch is identical to a central part of the marginal artery (MA), connecting the superior (SMA) and the inferior mesenteric (IMA) arteries; and (2) Riolan's arch represents a rare artery, connecting the SMA and the IMA. The current review aims to emphasize the clinical importance of the colon's vasculature and to show the feas...
Treatment of female spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and control Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats with captopril was carried out by the addition of the drug in the drinking water throughout pregnancy and lactation and after weaning. At 28 weeks of age, average systolic blood pressure of treated SHR was 113 +/- 3 mm Hg, which was below that of control SHR (188 +/- 3 mm Hg) and WKY rats (124 +/- 3 mm...
BACKGROUND Arterial dissection is defined as the cleavage of the arterial wall by an intramural hematoma. Reports of dissection of the celiac and/or superior mesenteric artery are rare; as far as we know, only 24 cases of spontaneous isolated celiac trunk dissection, and 71 cases of spontaneous isolated superior mesenteric artery dissection have been reported. CASE REPORT The case presents a ...
A 50-year-old man had a mesenteric ischemia related to superior mesenteric artery (SMA) occlusion associated with a type B aortic dissection. We decided to perform stent placement for the SMA and could avoid mesenteric ischemia. We think the stent placement in the SMA might be an option for the treatment of mesenteric ischemia caused by aortic dissection.
1. It has been reported that ortreotide partially corrects the hyperdynamic state in patients and animals with portal hypertension. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether chronic administration of octreotide can increase vascular responsiveness in rats with portal hypertension. 2. Portal hypertension was induced by partial portal vein ligation. Octreotide was given for 9 days s...
