Self-assembled microwires of terephthalic acid (TPA) and melamine are prepared through the evaporation of water in a solution mixture of TPA and melamine. The microwires were characterized by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), attenuated total reflection infrared (ATR-IR) spectra, and cross-polarized optical microscopy (CPOM). The TPA•M microwires showed semi-conductive properties.
Hydrolysis of cyanuric acid, melamine, melem, atrazine and melamine-formaldehyde resin was found to be catalyzed by an A1203 catalyst. The reactions occur irreversibly with cleavage of the s-triazine ring between 240 and 450°C. We report unique and spontaneous formation of hydrogels of perylene derivatives with melamine. The luminescent gel network is formed by H-type aggregation of the perylene core, supramolecularly cross-linked by melamine units. As a result of controlled aggregation in the extended nanofibers, strong exciton fluorescence emission is observed.
