Residual periosteum developed periosteal bone formation in the pocket 10 years after cranioplasty, lumpectomy was conducted on the left lower abdomen under local anesthesia. Pathological sections revealed abundant osteocytes and mature bone matrix, and confirmed the bone formation on the residual periosteum.

To elucidate the direct role and mechanism of FGFR1 signaling in the differentiation and activation of osteoclasts, we conditionally inactivated FGFR1 in bone marrow monocytes and mature osteoclasts of mice. Mice deficient in FGFR1 (Fgfr1(-/-)) exhibited misregulated bone remodeling with reduced osteoclast number and impaired osteoclast function. In vitro assay demonstrated that the number of t...

Title: Osseous Metaplasia Leading to Traction Retinal Detachment in the nonphthisical eye of Young Boy with Cytomegalovirus Retinitis. Purpose: To report a case of intraocular bone formation in an 11-year-old boy with a history cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis secondary to immunosuppression following Bone Marrow Transplantation due to hyper Immunoglobulin G (IgG) syndrome. Methods: An 11-year-ol...

Enriched fractions of mature and immature neutrophil granulocytes, isolated from guinea pig bone marrow, were assayed for ornithine decarboxylase activity and polyamine content. The results show that immature granulocytes contain at least ten times more ornithine decarboxylase activity and two times more spermidine than mature granulocytes. The incorporation of 14C-ornithine into putrescine and...

The purpose of this work was to establish a methodology to enable the isolation and study of osteocytes from skeletally mature young (4-month-old) and old (22-month-old) mice. The location of osteocytes deep within bone is ideal for their function as mechanosensors. However, this location makes the observation and study of osteocytes in vivo technically difficult. Osteocytes were isolated from ...

Two morphologically distinct types of murine megakaryocyte (MK) colonies are present after three to seven days in soft agar culture: (a) big-cell” colonies composed of ten to 30 large, mature-appearing megakaryocytes and (b) “heterogeneous” colonies consisting of approximately 1 00 or more cells at various stages of differentiation. Cytochemical and immunocytochemical techniques were used to st...

Bone remodeling is characterized by the sequential, local tethering of osteoclasts and osteoblasts and is key to the maintenance of bone integrity. While bone matrix-mobilized growth factors, such as TGF-β, are proposed to regulate remodeling, no in vivo evidence exists that an osteoclast-produced molecule serves as a coupling factor for bone resorption to formation. We found that CTHRC1, a pro...
