Traversability maps are a global spatial representation of the relative difficulty in driving through a local region. These maps support simple optimisation of robot paths and have been very popular in path planning techniques. Despite the popularity of these maps, the methods for generating global traversability maps have been limited to using a-priori information. This paper explores the cons...

While motion planning techniques for automated vehicles in a reactive and anticipatory manner are already widely presented, approaches to cooperative motion planning are still remaining. In this paper, we present an approach to enhance common motion planning algorithms, that allows for cooperation with human-driven vehicles. Unlike previous approaches, we integrate the prediction of other traff...

This chapter presents motivation and definitions for quantifying the inefficiency of equilibria in noncooperative games. We illustrate the basic concepts in four fundamental network models, which are studied in depth in subsequent chapters. We also discuss how measures of the inefficiency of equilibria can guide mechanism and network design.

Sheet metal cutting using lasers is ubiquitous in the industry, and is used to produce everything from home decorations to excavator scoops. Metal waste is costly for the industry, both in terms of money, but also in terms of an increased environmental footprint. Tomologic develops a unique optimisation system that can reduce this waste drastically. This paper presents a CP approach to the Lase...

Cheetahs and beetles run, dolphins and salmon swim, and bees and birds fly with grace and economy surpassing our technology. Evolution has shaped the breathtaking abilities of animals, leaving us the challenge of reconstructing their targets of control and mechanisms of dexterity. In this review we explore a corner of this fascinating world. We describe mathematical models for legged animal loc...

During the past four decades the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, has witnessed a remarkable rapid urban growth. This has coincided with lack of a planning framework, weak institutional and poor policies, which have caused haphazard and interrelated land use and transportation issues. Current land use and transport planning policies and practice in Jeddah seem to focus on different visions, caus...

Planning United States military procurement commits a significant portion of our nation’s wealth and determines our ability to defend ourselves, our allies, and our principles over the long term. Our military pioneered and has long used mathematical optimization to unravel the distinguishing complexities of military capital planning. The succession of mathematical optimization models we present...
