Computerised apex- and echocardiography was used to study left ventricular dimensions and function in 13 patients with untreated malignant hypertension and eight with severe benign hypertension. All patients had normal left ventricular cavity dimensions. Five benign hypertensives and malignant hypertensives with a previous history of hypertension had significant thickening of the septum and pos...

Plasma renin activity (PRA) and aldosterone secretion rate (ASR) were measured in 22 patients in balance on a 100 mEq sodium diet during the malignant phase of hypertension and at intervals during long-term follow-up on pharmacological therapy. Three patients had normal PRA and ASR during malignant hypertension. Eighty-six per cent of patients had an increased ASR, but only in 36% was PRA conco...

To determine whether in the transgenic rat model [TGR(Cyp1a1Ren2)] with inducible ANG II-dependent malignant hypertension changes in the activation of intrarenal renin-angiotensin system may contribute to the pathogenesis of hypertension, we examined the gene expression of angiotensinogen (AGT) in renal cortical tissues and renin and prorenin receptor [(P)RR] in the collecting duct (CD) of the ...

Kidney artery aneurysms are a rare phenomenon with prevalence of 0.01%-1% in the general population. Although historical series describe rupture rates 14% to 30% mortality rate 80%, natural history kidney is currently characterized by low risk and slow nonexistent growth rate. Criteria for repair have been controversial decades include aneurysm size > 2 cm, female sex, symptoms such as drug-...
