Aesthetic considerations have influenced the management of dental maladies in varying degrees for many years. Patient awareness and expectations have increased recently to the point that less than optimal aesthetics are no longer an acceptable outcome (27). In the 21st century, the dental practitioner must be prepared to meet the challenges necessary to provide care that will result in a true c...

There is little material in the literature that compares biological width measurements in periapical and bite-wings radiographs with clinical measurements. The purpose of this study was to compare measurements of biological width taken by three different methods which are frequently used for planning periodontal surgery - periapical radiograph, bite-wing radiograph and transperiodontal probing ...

An adequate understanding of the relationship between periodontal tissues and restorative dentistry is paramount to ensure adequate form, function, esthetics, and comfort of the dentition. While most clinicians are aware of this important relationship, uncertainty remains regarding specific concepts such as the biologic width and indications and applications for surgical crown lengthening. This...

The hairpin completion is a natural operation of formal languages which has been inspired by molecular phenomena in biology and by DNA-computing. We consider here a new variant of the hairpin completion, called hairpin lengthening, which seems more appropriate for practical implementation. The variant considered here concerns the lengthening of the word that forms a hairpin structure, such that...

1 A challenge for OT 1.1 Compensatory lengthening as weight conservation Compensatory lengthening occurs when the featural content of a nucleus or moraic coda is deleted, or becomes reaffiliated with a nonmoraic position — typically an onset — and the vacated mora, instead of being lost, is retained with new content (Hayes 1989). Compensatory lengthening is most often triggered by the deletion ...

This study investigates the role of temporal cues in the perception at discourse boundaries. Target cues were penult lengthening, final lengthening, and pause duration. Results showed that different cues are weighted differently for different purposes. Final lengthening is more important for subjects to detect boundaries, while pause duration is more responsible in cuing the boundary sizes.

Lengthening of a double-looped tendon graft construct used to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can result in an increase in anterior knee laxity and affect the stability of the reconstructed knee. Three possible regions where lengthening of the construct can occur are (1) the region of the tibial fixation, (2) the region of the femoral fixation, and (3) the region of the graft b...

BACKGROUND Despite the morphological alterations of the deep fascia subjected to leg lengthening have been investigated in cellular and extracellular aspects, the impact of leg lengthening on viscoelastic properties of the deep fascia remains largely unknown. This study aimed to address the changes of viscoelastic properties of the deep fascia during leg lengthening using uniaxial tensile test....
