We present a laterally emitting, coupled cavity micro fluidic dye ring laser, suitable for integration into lab-on-a-chip micro systems. The micro-fluidic laser has been successfully designed, fabricated, characterized and modelled. The resonator is formed by a micro-fluidic channel bounded by two isosceles triangle mirrors. The micro-fluidic laser structure is defined using photo lithography i...

We present a scheme for ground-state cooling of mechanical resonator by simultaneously coupling it to superconducting qubit and cavity field. The Hamiltonian describing the hybrid system dynamics is systematically derived. process driven red-detuned ac drive on laser optomechanical cavity. have investigated in weak strong regimes both individual system, i.e., assisted cooling, compared them wit...

A microfabricated Fabry-Perot optical resonator has been used for atom detection and photon production with less than 1 atom on average in the cavity mode. Our cavity design combines the intrinsic scalability of microfabrication processes with direct coupling of the cavity field to single-mode optical waveguides or fibers. The presence of the atom is seen through changes in both the intensity a...

This work for the first time proposes and studies a method of frequency doubling of CW non-single-frequency fibre lasers with a high-Q resonator partially coupled to the fibre laser cavity. The proposed new approach resulted in the following parameters: laser's maximal output power 880 mW at 536 nm when pumped with 6.2 W at 976 nm, wavelength tuneability range 521-545 nm with the output power a...

Single-longitudinal-mode operation in a homogeneously broadened solid-state laser is often impeded by spatial hole burning. To maintain a single longitudinal mode, it is necessary to eliminate spatial hole burning, for example, by introducing quarter-wave plates at both ends of the gain medium' or by using a ring cavity.2 In a standingwave resonator, an additional wavelength-selective element, ...

Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) resonators are promising candidates for realization of ultra-small micro lasers. Conventional 3D resonators such as micro toroids [1], micro spheres [2, 3] and microbottles [4] are well studied as both passive and active devices. The excitation and signal collection are mostly done using evanescently coupled micro-sized fibers [5], integrated waveguides [3] and\or ...

We report the first theoretical investigation of passive mode-locking in photonic crystal mode-locked lasers. Related work has investigated coupled-resonator-optical-waveguide structures in the regime of active mode-locking [Opt. Express 13, 4539-4553 (2005)]. An extensive numerical investigation of the influence of key parameters of the active sections and the photonic crystal cavity on the la...

A stable optical resonator has been built using a 30-microm-wide, metal-coated microcantilever as one mirror. The second mirror was a 12.7-mm-diameter concave dielectric mirror. By positioning the two mirrors 75 mm apart in a near-hemispherical configuration, a Fabry-Perot cavity with a finesse equal to 55 was achieved. The finesse was limited by the optical loss in the cantilever's metal coati...

A typical self-mode-locked vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser must operate at the edge of stable region resonant cavity. Its minimal pump spot on gain chip is used as a soft aperture. By comparing with continuous-wave (CW) laser, pulsed focused more tightly due to Kerr-lens effect. This mitigates cavity loss in comparison CW such that successive mode-locking can be initiated. The d...

We demonstrate for the first time a multi-wavelength laser based on a bismuth-based erbium-doped fiber (Bi-EDF) assisted by a four-wave mixing (FWM) process. Using a simple linear cavity resonator scheme containing a 49 cm long highly nonlinear Bi-EDF, we obtained about 8 lines of optical comb with a line spacing of approximately 0.52 nm at the maximum 1480 nm pump power of 160mW.
