Different Klebsiella species may vary with the type of infections they cause in both the community and hospital environments. However, in many laboratories in developing countries, differentiation of the genus Klebsiella into species is not generally done during bacteriological diagnosis due to high cost and special skills involved. This study aimed at determining the prevalence of different Kl...

A retrospective study of all Klebsiella isolations from patients admitted to hospital with acute respiratory tract infections over a 27-month period was carried out. Ten of the Klebsiella isolations from sputum and one from a blood culture were identified as Klebsiella oxytoca. The clinical and radiological features of six patients are described. Four of these patients had lobar pneumonia, one ...

The aim of the study was to analyze the antimicrobial susceptibility of Austrian clinical Klebsiella sp. and Enterobacter sp. isolates linked to patient-related data over a time period from 1998 to 2014. The main findings of this study were (i) a marked difference of antibiotic susceptibility rates between different infection sites for both Klebsiella sp. and Enterobacter sp., (ii) significantl...

INTRODUCTION The present case reports highlight the peculiar aspect of Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess, an emerging disease in United States and Western countries. CASE PRESENTATION We report two cases of Asiatic patients with Klebsiella-associated liver abscesses evaluated at our institution over a one-year period. Both of them had non-specific clinical symptoms at presentation, a peculi...

introduction klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most important gram-negative bacteria causing hospital-acquired infections. case presentation in this report is presented a patient with an abdominal infection caused by carbapenemase producing-klebsiella pneumonia (k. pneumonia). in spite of administrating the combination therapy, successive resistance to last-resort antimicrobial agents (colist...

conclusions our results indicated that an enormous proportion of k. pneumoniae isolated from sputum and surgical-wound swabs produced fully established biofilms. it is reasonable to assume the existence of a relationship between the site of infection and the formation of biofilm. a high level of genetic diversity among the k. pneumoniae strains was observed. results the distributions of the cli...

Biochemical methods employed to classify bacterial species have limitations and may have contributed to the taxonomic complexity recently reported for the genus Klebsiella. The objective of the present study was to apply a simple biochemical test panel to classify a collection of human Klebsiella isolates. We found that with only three additional tests, it is possible to place most isolates in ...

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infection and recently, relapse of listeriosis has been reported in leukemia and colorectal cancer, and the patients with Klebsiella pneumoniae are at increased risk of colorectal cancer. Translation initiation codon recognition is basically mediated by Shine-Dalgarno (SD) and the anti-SD sequences at the small ribosomal RNA (ssu rRNA). In this research,...

A 269-kilobase conjugative plasmid, pK29, from a Klebsiella pneumoniae strain was sequenced. The plasmid harbors multiple antimicrobial resistance genes, including those encoding CMY-8 AmpC-type and CTX-M-3 extended-spectrum beta-lactamases in the common backbone of IncHI2 plasmids. Mechanisms for dissemination of the resistance genes are highlighted in comparative genomic analyses.
