We report here the genome sequence of a multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae strain, which caused an outbreak in a neonatal ward in 2011. The genome consists of a single chromosome (5,278 kb) and three plasmids (362 kb, 5 kb, and 4 kb).
Here we report the full genome sequence of Klebsiella pneumoniae KCTC 2242,consisting of a 5.26-Mb chromosome (57.6% GC%; 5,035 genes [4,923 encoding known proteins, 112 RNA genes]) and a 202-kb plasmid (50.2% GC%; 229 genes [229 encoding known proteins]).
Carbapenems are one of the β-Lactam antibiotics with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. Inappropriate use of this antibiotic can produce resistance strains by production of carbapenemases enzyme. The Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) is the most important mechanism of enzymatic resistance seen in Enterobacteriaceae isolated especially Klebsiella pneumoniae. The aim and objectiv...
The penguin wing oyster Pteria penguin whole body extract was obtained with different solvents. The whole body extracts were assayed for antibacterial activity using agar well diffusion technique against human pathogens. The extracts derived from acetone and chloroform exhibited broad antibacterial activity. Highest activity was exhibited against Klebsiella pneumoniae (6 mm) and Staphylococcus ...
A bacteriophage virulent for extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strain 182 was isolated from sewage. The double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) genome showed high similarity to the genomes of other Klebsiella pneumoniae phages. It comprises 175,206 bp with a mol% G+C content of 41.9 and contains 276 putative open reading frames (ORFs) and one tRNA.
Infections due to multidrug-resistant organisms continue to increase, and therapeutic options remain scarce. Given this challenge, it has become necessary to use older antimicrobials for treatment of these pathogens. We report three patients with lower urinary tract infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae who were successfully treated with ...
Introduction / objectives The emergence and spread of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae represents a major clinical and public health challenge, especially concerning those organisms that produce Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)–type b-lactamase. In this study, we examined the molecular epidemiology of KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains, isolated during sporadic or epid...
We evaluated detection of ertapenem (ETP) resistance and Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) in 47 Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates using a novel automated microscopy system. Automated microscopy correctly classified 22/23 isolates as ETP resistant and 24/24 as ETP susceptible and correctly classified 21/21 isolates as KPC positive and 26/26 as KPC negative.
We report here the draft genome sequences of Klebsiella pneumoniae strains Kp1803 and Kp3380 isolated during a large outbreak at A Coruña Hospital in Spain. The final genome assemblies for Kp1803 and Kp3380 comprise approximately 6.6 and 6.1 Mb, respectively, and both strains have G+C contents of 57.2%.
