We present the first measurements of the kinetics of random motion of individual monomers within large polymer coils. We use double- and single-stranded DNA (dsDNA and ssDNA) as models of semiflexible and flexible polymers, respectively. Fluorescence fluctuations of DNA fragments labeled specifically at a single position reveal the time dependence of the DNA monomer's mean-square displacement <...

The kinetic battery model is a popular model of the dynamic behavior of a conventional battery, useful to predict or optimize the time until battery depletion. The model however lacks certain obvious aspects of batteries in-the-wild, especially with respect to (i) the effects of random influences and (ii) the behavior when charging up to capacity bounds. This paper considers the kinetic battery...

The reaction of CH3O2 radicals with acetaldehyde on the solid surface of NH4NO3 has been studied in a flow capillary reactor at low pressure and room temperature. The experiments were performed using EPR spectrometer combined with the kinetic method of radicals freezing. Peroxy radicals revealed an oscillation complex behavior during the process regarding to the phenomenon of radicals multiplic...

The Persistent Turning Walker Model (PTWM) was introduced by Gautrais et al in Mathematical Biology for the modelling of fish motion. It involves a nonlinear pathwise functional of a non-elliptic hypo-elliptic diffusion. This diffusion solves a kinetic Fokker-Planck equation based on an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Gaussian process. The long time “diffusive” behavior of this model was recently studied by...

The oxidation of nitroethane by glucose oxidase has been studied in detail and compared to the analogous reaction catalyzed by n-amino acid oxidase and to the behavior of sugar substrates of glucose oxidase. The overall stoichiometry of the reaction is nonintegral and incompletely understood. Although the major products are nitrite, acetaldehyde (P), and hydrogen peroxide, small amounts of nitr...

The initial rates of isomerization between glucose 6-phosphate and fructose Q-phosphate catalyzed by Bacillus stearothermophilus pbospboglucose isomerase (PGI) were measured in both the forward and reverse reactions. Although B. stearothermophilus PGI is a tetrameric enzyme, the reaction rate vs substrate concentration curves for both reactions exhibited Michaelis-Menten kinetic behavior. This ...

The proper arrangement of amino acids in a protein determines its proper function, which is vital for the cellular metabolism. This indicates that the process of peptide bond formation requires high fidelity. One of the most important processes for this fidelity is kinetic proofreading. As biochemical experiments suggest that kinetic proofreading plays a major role in ensuring the fidelity of p...

the effect of physiological concentrations of caffeine (purified from persian tea) on adenosine deaminase (ada) activity at physiological and pathological concentrations of adenosine (as substrate) in 50 mm tris-hcl buffer (ph 7.3) at 37°c was investigated, using uv-vis spectroscopy. ada exhibited a bi-phasic activity behavior and both phases showed positive cooperativities indicating adenosine...

The kinetic roughening behavior of vicinal Si(OO1) surfaces is studied with scanning tunneling microscopy. By analyzing the height-height correlation function of the Si layers that have been grown we found, in the case of islands growth, an algebraic roughening behavior with a roughness exponent of 0.68 * 0.05. In the step flow mode, however, we found non-algebraic roughening behavior.

The paper investigates the static and dynamic behavior of a continuous flow bioreactor for the aerobic biodegradation of municipal and industrial waste. The unstructured kinetic model for the bioreactor accounts for oxygen limitation in the bioreactor model while the growth rate is described by the biomass-dependent Contois model. This kinetic model is known to explain the aerobic biodegradatio...
