This study had the purpose of documenting the hemodynamic correlates of effective arterial elastance (Ea; i.e., an accurate estimate of hydraulic load) in mitral stenosis (MS) patients. The main hypothesis tested was that Ea relates to the total vascular resistance (R)-to-pulse interval duration (T) ratio (R/T) in MS patients both before and after successful balloon mitral valvotomy (BMV). High...

To investigate analgesic neural circuits activated by electroacupuncture (EA) at different sets of acupoints in the brain, goats were stimulated by EA at set of Baihui-Santai acupoints or set of Housanli acupoints for 30 min. The pain threshold was measured using the potassium iontophoresis method. The levels of c-Fos were determined with Streptavidin-Biotin Complex immunohistochemistry. The re...

Electroacupuncture (EA) at Zusanli is a widely used method for the treatment of intestinal ischemic disease. The current study attempts to investigate the possible mechanism from the point of cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway (CAP) in rats. Thirty rats were divided into five groups: control group, I/R group, EA group (I/R + EA), PNU group (I/R + α7 nAChR agonist), and α-BGT group (I/R + EA ...

In an effort to explore new, noninvasive treatment options for spinal cord injuries (SCI), this study investigated the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) for SCI rat models. SCI was induced by a modified Allen's weight-drop method. We investigated the response of EA at Dazhui (GV 14) and Mingmen (GV 4) acupoints to understand the effects and mechanisms of EA in neuroprotection and neuronal func...

We propose the Clustering Based Niching (CBN) method for Evolutionary Algorithms (EA) to identify multiple global and local optima in a multimodal search space. The basic idea is to apply the biological concept of species in separate ecological niches to EA to preserve diversity. We model species using a multipopulation approach, one population for each species. To identify species in a EA popu...

BACKGROUND Ellagic acid (EA), a dietary polyphenolic compound, has been demonstrated to exert anti-angiogenic effect but the detailed mechanism is not yet fully understood. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the zinc chelating activity of EA contributed to its anti-angiogenic effect. METHODS AND PRINCIPAL FINDINGS The matrix metalloproteinases-2 (MMP-2) activity, a zinc-required...

INTRODUCTION Separation of polyphenolics in different plant materials using high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) represents an effective method for their detection and quantification. OBJECTIVE To develop a simple, specific, precise, sensitive and accurate method for the simultaneous quantification of tiliroside (TRS), methyl brevifolincarboxylate (MBR) and ellagic acid (EA) in ...

In this paper an evolutionary algorithm (EA) is shown to be a feasible approach to solving the problem of determining the characteristics of wind gusts that result in critical loading of aircraft structures. The EA outperforms a traditional method suitable for solving linear problems, then is extended to nonlinear problems for which there is no effective solution methodology.

A technique for measurement of the stable isotope composition of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in stream water, using an elemental analyzer (EA) coupled to an isotope ratio mass spectrometer (IRMS), is described. Stream water samples were concentrated by rotary evaporation, acidified to remove dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), and dried in silver cups prior to analysis. Precision was evaluated...

the aim of this study was to determine the effects of external attention (ea) and internal attention (ia) with & without motivational music training on dynamic balance task. the method was quasi-experimental and the sample involved 60 athletic maile who were volunteers to participate in this study. after pre-test, subjects were divided into 5 groups of 12 members randomly. groups were: ia with ...
