A prospective study was performed to evaluate the changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) after clear corneal phacoemulsification in normal patients. The mean preoperative IOP of 30 patients was compared with the IOP at 1, 2, 3, and 5 months postoperatively. Lens extraction was associated with a reduction of IOP of 3.36 mmHg (SD +/- 2.33--p = 0.005) after 5 months.
Objectives: To investigate the influence on intraocular pressure (IOP) of airway management with a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) or tracheal tube (ETT), and secondly to compare the devices with regard to their impact on IOP. Design: Prospective, randomized observational study over a four-month period (August – November 2002) Setting: University-affiliated tertiary level hospital in Pretoria, Sout...
High Intraocular Pressure (IOP) for longer period of time may guide the eye to different deceases and Glaucoma is one of them. Continuous, non-invasive and comfortable way of measuring IOP is necessary to detect the high IOP at the very early stage. Few methods are involved widely to measure the IOP in the doctor’s chamber. Some other methods can be used by the person himself but those are stil...
Intraocular pressure (IOP) rise after anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) can be either short-term or long-term and may require medical intervention. Short-term IOP spikes are a fairly common and well recognized complication of anti-VEGF injections. Long-term IOP rise is less well-understood and disputed as a complicati...
BACKGROUND: High intraocular pressure (IOP) is a major risk factor for glaucoma.
Phacoemulsification with mechanical pupil dilation was performed on a functionally monocular glaucoma patient with pseudoexfoliation syndrome. The postoperative course was complicated by persistent intraocular hemorrhaging from the pupil margin in multiple locations that ceased temporarily with a marked elevation in intraocular pressure (IOP). Normalization of IOP with medication or paracentesi...
The effect of propofol on intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured in 25 patients presenting for elective non-ophthalmological surgery when propofol was used for the induction and maintenance of anaesthesia (together with 67% nitrous oxide in oxygen, and vecuronium). Normocapnia was maintained. After induction of anaesthesia, intraocular pressure was significantly lower than the baseline value; ...
Sixty glaucomatous eyes of 60 patients treated with laser trabeculoplasty as primary therapy were reviewed retrospectively. There were 42 eyes with capsular glaucoma and 18 with simple glaucoma. The mean prelaser intraocular pressure (IOP) was 35.2 (SD = 6.5) mmHg. Success was defined as IOP less than or equal to 22 mmHg without medication. The probability of success was 0.73 at 1 year, 0.66 at...
Purpose: To study the effect of biomechanical properties of the cornea on the intraocular pressure in eyes affected with Mucopolysaccharidosis type I-S (Scheie's syndrome). Methods: Four eyes of two patients in their mid-fifties diagnosed with Scheie's syndrome were investigated for corneal biomechanical properties. The corneal biomechanical profile was assessed by the use of Ocular response an...
Background: The aim of this study was to provide data, on the distribution or intraocular pressure (IOP) in Tehran population. Materials and Methods: Through a population-based, cross-sectional study, a total of 4565 Tehran citizens were studied in the Tehran Eye Study. The findings of the participants (n=3834) 10 years and older free of glaucoma diagnosis or suspicion who had undergone applana...
