We have obtained room-temperature transient infrared difference spectra of the M412 photoproduct of bacteriorhodopsin (bR) by using a "rapid-sweep" Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) technique that permits the collection of an entire spectrum (extending from 1000 to 2000 cm-1 with 8-cm-1 resolution) in 5 ms. These spectra exhibit less than 10(-4) absorbance unit of noise, even utilizing wet sam...

The automated quantification of three greenhouse gases, ammonia, methane, and nitrous oxide, in the vicinity of a large dairy farm by open-path Fourier transform infrared (OP/FT-IR) spectrometry at intervals of 5 min is demonstrated. Spectral pretreatment, including the automated detection and correction of the effect of interrupting the infrared beam, is by a moving object, and the automated c...

Nickel and mercury are naturally occurring, highly toxic environmental pollutant. The goal of the present study was investigate the effects of nickel and mercury exposure on the biochemical contents of the muscles tissues of fish Lates calcarifer by using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. FT-IR spectra reveal significant differences in absorbance intensities between the control. ...

Zinc borate is an important boron compound that can be used as multi-functional flame retardant additive due to its high dehydration temperature property. In this study, the raw materials of ZnSO4.7H2O, NaOH and H3BO3 were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and used in the synthesis of zinc borates. The synthesis parameters were set to 1...

The development and optimization of an automated flow injection (FI) manifold coupled with a Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) detector for the determination of toluene, ethyl benzene and o-xylene in an n-hexane matrix is described. FT-IR parameters optimized were resolution and number of co-added scans; FI parameters optimized were type of pump tubing, carrier flow rate and sample volume. ATR...

ATR FT-IR imaging with germanium crystals offers the potential for acquiring infrared spectral images at up to four times higher spatial resolution than is possible using conventional reflectance or transmission imaging. There is often some confusion over the meaning and inter-relationship of terms such as “spatial resolution,” “pixel size” or “sampling interval,” and it may be hard to understa...

The purpose of this study is to develop a method of evaluating the enzymatic activity of trypsin in a solid-state based on Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra using chemoinformatics and two-dimensional (2-D) correlation spectroscopy. Crystalline trypsin powders are compressed at 0-4000 kg cm-2 by a compression/tension tester. The enzymatic activity of trypsin is assayed by the kinetic de...

Site-selective deposition of aerosol Pd nanoparticles on a substrate was employed to fabricate nanoscale Ag dots and rings through a subsequent electroless deposition. The fabricated nanoscale dot and ring arrays respectively showed properties in surface-enhanced Raman (SER, with a 1.8 × 10(5) enhancement factor) and Fourier transform near infrared (FT-NIR, at 6153 cm(-1) absorption band) spectra.
