The article describes a new data structure called neuro-index. It is an alternative to wellknown file indexes. The neuro-index is fundamentally different because it stores weight coefficients in neural network. It is not a reference type like ”keyword–position in a file”.

One of the fundamental tasks that data warehouse (DW) administrator needs to perform during the physical design is to select the right indexes to speed up her/his queries. Two categories of indexes are available and supported by the main DBMS vendors: (i) indexes defined on a single table and (ii) indexes defined on multiple tables such as join indexes, bitmap join indexes, etc. Selecting relev...

Dua and Miller (1996) created leading and coincident employment indexes for the state of Connecticut, following Moore’s (1981) work at the national level. The performance of the DuaMiller indexes following the recession of the early 1990s fell short of expectations. This paper performs two tasks. First, it describes the process of revising the Connecticut Coincident and Leading Employment Index...

A CARDINAL GOAL of librarians of institutions of higher learning is to build up collections of permanent value. For a non-fiction work to serve this purpose, we would expect it to be read in whole or in part and to be referred to for such things as facts, opinions, ideas, or felicitous phrasing. College librarians have to buy books selectively, a task made more difficult by the rising cost of b...

The idea of a yardstick or selection index for measuring the net merit of breeding animals is probably almost as old as the art of animal breeding itself. In practice several or many traits influence an animal‟s practical value, although they do so in varying degrees. The information regarding different traits may vary widely, some coming from an animal‟s relatives and some from the animal‟s ow...

Price indexes are summary statistics meant to convey a comparison of prices at one time (or place) to another. The raw ingredients from which a standard price index is constructed are the ratios of the price of an item at one time period to the price of the same item at another. Goods which disappear after the initial time period, or first appear in the second, thwart constructing these ratios....

We present a generalization of spatial power indexes able to overcome their main limitations, namely: i) the excessive concentration of power measures; ii) the too high sensitivity to players’ location in the ideological space. Voters’ propensity to support an issue is modeled via a random utility function with two additive terms: the deterministic term accounts for voters’ preference-driven/pr...

Index data structures such as B+ trees and hash tables are used widely as the core of databases andfile systems. In a world where concurrent systems are common as servers and largely increasing aspersonal computers, we need a way to make sure concurrent implementations do not contain bugs.We use the fact that multiple implementations share a common high-level specification and use<l...

This paper demonstrates the use of generalized partial indexes for efficient query processing. We propose that partial indexes be built on those portions of the database that are statistically likely to be the most useful for query processing. We identify three classes of statistical information, and two levels at which it may be available. We describe indexing strategies that use this informat...
