We present a case of Aspergillus septic hip arthritis in an immunocompetent patient with undiagnosed recurrent pulmonary aspergillosis who underwent arthroscopic surgery. Biopsy specimens of synovium revealed fungal hyphae, confirming Aspergillus infection. Aspergillus septic hip arthritis can occur in immunocompetent patients, and arthroscopy can be a noninvasive surgical option in these cases.

Invasive aspergillosis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. Many cases of pulmonary, cutaneous, cerebral, and paranasal sinus aspergillosis in immunocompetent patient were defined in literature but disseminated aspergillosis is very rare. Here we present an immunocompetent case with extrapulmonary disseminated aspergillosis due to Aspergillus niger, totally...

We herein report a case of slowly progressive cutaneous, rhinofacial, and pulmonary mucormycosis caused by Mucor irregularis in an immunocompetent woman who was successfully managed by combined surgical debridement and antifungal therapy. Slow progression, pulmonary involvement, occurrence in an immunocompetent patient, and good prognosis are unusual features of our case.

A 55 years immunocompetent male was evaluated for chronic pulmonary disease of over 12-month duration for which he had twice been prescribed anti-tubercular therapy. Investigations led to the diagnosis of chronic Klebsiella pneumonia, which is rarely encountered in immunocompetent hosts in the antibiotic era.

The imaging findings of cryptococcosis affecting the brain in immunocompetent patients can be different from the more commonly described findings in immunocompromised patients. We report a case of an extremely unusual MR appearance of central nervous system cryptococcosis in a 49-year-old immunocompetent man.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a virus that belongs to the family of Herpesviridae. Infection can cause a serious disease in immunocompromised patients, but it can also affect immunocompetent patients, creating generally self limiting symptoms. However, in some cases it can be fatal. We present a case of CMV ileitis with serious clinical symptoms that led to an operation in an immunocompetent patient.

We describe two cases of Mycobacterium microti infection causing pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in HIV-seronegative immunocompetent patients in Germany. The isolates were identified as M. microti of the llama and vole types, according to spoligotype patterns. Our data demonstrate that M. microti can cause severe pulmonary TB in immunocompetent patients.

Nocardia cerebral abscesses are rare intracranial lesions. They account for only 1% to 2% of all brain abscesses. They are important in immunocompromised patients, but rarely occur in immunocompetent hosts. Here, we present a case of multiple primary brain abscesses with Nocardia in an immunocompetent patient, who was treated successfully with oral antibiotic therapy.

Campylobacter lari is an infrequent cause of intestinal and extraintestinal infection in humans. We report a case of C. lari prosthetic joint infection and bacteremia in an 81-year-old immunocompetent man. The infection was associated with septic shock and fatal outcome. C. lari may cause severe disease, even in an immunocompetent host.

We describe an immunocompetent adult with acute cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection complicated by extensive portal vein thrombosis. A literature review on the incidence, presentation, pathophysiology and management of CMV-associated thrombosis is included. Previously thought to be a rare complication, recent large case series and the present case reconfirm the increasing prevalence of CMV-associat...
