BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIM Per oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is a complex technique used in achalasia. Preclinical training is essential but little is known about the number of procedures needed. The aim of this study was to determine the number of procedures required to master POEM in an animal model. This paper investigates a two-stage model of infants' imitative learning from observed actions and their effects. According to this model, the observation of another person's action activates the corresponding motor code in the infants' motor repertoire (i.e. leads to motor resonance). The second process guiding imitative behavior results from the observed action effects. If the modeled action ...

We propose a machine learning method for recognizing modern Arabic poems based on the common poetic features of modern Arabic poetry. The poetic features include: rhyming, repetition, use of diacritics and punctuations, and text alignment. The method can classify text documents as poem or non-poem documents with a very high accuracy of 99.81%.

We extend the analysis in Alós-Ferrer and Ania (2005) to allow for memory in the imitative learning process. Adding memory allows to detect and correct unprofitable deviations and makes it harder to disturb Nash equilibria with spiteful deviations that achieve a relative advantage. We show for the case of general aggregative submodular games that perfectly competitive outcomes are still stochas...

Liepmann posited that, in right handers, the left parietal lobe contains movement formulas or representations. Therefore, performance failures may be induced by degraded representations, a failure of these representations to influence motor systems or a failure of stimuli to fully access these representations. Imitation may help the performance of subjects with degraded representations. However...

The paper describes results from a simulation model of rural land use, focusing on how the relative advantages of imitative and non-imitative approaches to land use selection change under diierent circumstances. It is shown that the success ofìmitation' depends in quite complex ways on the type of imitation used, the strategies of other agents with which the imitator is interacting, and aspects...
