On starch-gel or polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis of human serum, a supernumerary zone of aspartate aminotransferase activity may be demonstrated, migrating with the slow alpha(2) protein zone. This appearance is due only to cationic aspartate aminotransferase, bound by alpha(2)-macroglobulin. The binding is strongly potentiated by dilute borate buffers.

Several human diseases including, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, neurodegenerative and hepatic diseases are related to destructive effect of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Antioxidants may provide a possible solution to this problem. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Celtis australis on CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity in mice.  The antioxidant activity...

The renal- and hepato-toxicity induced by abamectin pesticide (Vertimec) and a commercial form of a bio-insecticide Bacillus thuringiensis (Agerin) in male albino rats were evaluated. Blood picture and blood glucose level were investigated. Male albino rats were administered dietary doses each equivalent to 1/10 or 1/100 of the LD50 values of each toxicant for 30 consecutive days. Abamectin was...

this study investigated the effect of berberine on the hepatic dysfunction and histological damage induced by renal ischaemia/ reperfusion (i/r) at an early stage. there were four groups (n=7). in ber+i/r group, rats received berberine (ber; 15 mg/kg/day) orally for 7 days before induction of ischemia. i/r group received distilled water orally for 7 days. in sham and ber+sham groups in which ar...

two hundred and twenty one-day male chicks (ross 308) were used in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and four replicates each to investigate the effects of the different levels of 0.15, 0.3 and 0.6 percent rosemary extract along with nitrate (27.4 mg sodium nitrate/liter water) in drinking water on growth, some blood parameters and carcass characteristics of broiler chickens. no ...

The aim of this study was to use biochemical markers to evaluate the quality of fresh and cryopreserved semen from the arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus). Twenty-three manually collected ejaculates were analysed for the main indicators of semen quality (sperm concentration and ejaculate volume). Sperm motility and percentage of morphologically normal and abnormal spermatozoa were determined according ...

INTRODUCTION Maternal environment and lifestyle factors may modify placental function to match the mother's capacity to support the demands of fetal growth. Much remains to be understood about maternal influences on placental metabolic and amino acid transporter gene expression. We investigated the influences of maternal lifestyle and body composition (e.g. fat and muscle content) on a selectio...

In a 42-d experiment, 576 one-day-old Vencobb 308 broiler chicks were used to investigate the effects of lecithin extract (0.5 g/kg), choline chloride 60% (1 g/kg) and Bio choline (1 g/kg) in diets of moderate and high energy in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement on performance and certain physiological traits in broiler chickens. The inclusion of Bio choline and lecithin extract in the diet signifi...
