This paper presents a systematic approach to exponentially stabilize the periodic orbits of multi-domain hybrid systems arising from 3D bipedal walking. Firstly, the method of Poincaré sections is extended to the hybrid systems with multiple domains. Then, based on the properties of the Poincaré maps, a continuous piecewise feedback control strategy is presented, and three methods are furthermo...

The optimum use of energy in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is very important. The recent researches show that organising the network nodes in some clusters leads to higher efficiency of energy and finally it increases the lifetime of the network. So, controlling the number and the location of the clusters head (CHs) and also the size of the clusters about the node number leads to a balance in...

In order for intelligent systems to be applicable in a wide range of situations, end users must be able to modify their task descriptions. We introduce Tailor, a system that allows users to modify task information through instruction. In this approach, the user enters a short sentence to describe the desired change. The system maps the sentence into valid, plausible modifications and checks for...

In this paper, a new hybrid algorithm which combines both of token-based and character-based approaches is presented. The basic Levenshtein approach has been extended to token-based distance metric. The distance metric is enhanced to set the proper granularity level behavior of the algorithm. It smoothly maps a threshold of misspellings differences at the character level, and the importance of ...

Provably asymptotically stable running gaits are developed for the five-link, four-actuator bipedal robot, RABBIT. A controller is designed so that the Poincaré return map associated with periodic running gaits can be computed on the basis of a model with impulse effects that, previously, had been used only for the design of walking gaits. This feedback design leads to the notion of a hybrid ze...

In this paper, we propose a hybrid model of the fuzzi-ed Kohonen's Self-Organizing Map and the GA with numerical chromosomes, and automatic fuzzy rule extraction method that uses our model. It is shown that our hybrid model is superior to both of the individual models in cases where there is a tendency for data to change dynamically and quickly.

Cartographic mashup is a powerful tool for users to visualize thematic data together with base maps, and it is increasingly popular due to the better availability of geodata. In current typical mashups, thematic data and base maps come from different providers without any connection between the data sets, and their scales are not synchronized. In this paper, we firstly explore the problems in s...

This paper investigates the stabilization of a novel subclass of impulsive hybrid systems (IHS) that feature controllable guards and resets maps. While the structure of the guards and the reset map is assumed to be completely determined from the physical set-up, both mappings are jointly adjustable through exogenous control inputs at run-time. As a core feature, all adjustments result in simult...

Under standard Lipschitz conditions, trajectories of systems described by ordinary differential equations are well defined in both forward and reverse time. (The flow map is invertible.) However for hybrid systems, uniqueness of trajectories in forward time does not guarantee flow-map invertibility, allowing non-uniqueness in reverse time. The paper establishes a necessary and sufficient condit...
