The effect of gold trichloride on DNA synthesis of human thymocytes and peripheral blood lymphocytes was tested. A stimulation was obtained in both cell types with a concentration of 6-50 micrograms/ml. Gold trichloride may thus not be used in a lymphocyte transformation test for the diagnosis of contact allergy.

Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (lymphocyte-monocyte) in culture release a solube factor which can stimulate, up to 200-fold, production of prostaglandin E2 by isolated, adherent, rheumatoid synovial cells. Production of the factor by the mononuclear cells is enhanced by phytohemagglutinin. This factor is similar in apparent mol vt (10,000-20,000) to that which also stimulates collagen...

When peripheral blood lymphocytes and human red cells coated with lgG were incubated in vitro in culture medium, antibodydependent lymphocyte-mediated lysis was observed. This lysis was markedly inhibited by the addition of purified monoclonal IgG1 (1000 Lg/ml) to the culture medium. In contrast. lysis by lymphocytes of sensitized red cells in the presence of undiluted human serum was equal to ...

Aerial parts of Salvia Mirzayanii was extracted with methanol. Methanol extract was suspended in water and defatted with petroleum ether. The defatted part was then partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The ethyl acetate partition was chromatographed on a silica gel column to afford several fractions. Lymphocyte proliferation inhibitory assay of the resulted fractions was compared in vit...

The interaction of peanut agglutinin (PNA) with human thymocytes, peripheral blood lymphocytes, and peripheral blood cells of various types of leukemia was investigated by using fluorescein isothiocyanate-conjugated PNA. The majority of human thymocytes (60-80%) bind the lectin. The major subpopulation of thymocytes that is PNA-positive was separated from the PNA-negative cells by differential ...

Hypomorphic mutations in DNA ligase IV (LIG4) cause a human syndrome of immunodeficiency, radiosensitivity, and growth retardation due to defective DNA repair by the nonhomologous end-joining (NHEJ) pathway. Lig4-null mice are embryonic lethal, and better mouse models are needed to study human LigIV syndrome. We recently identified a viable mouse strain with a Y288C hypomorphic mutation in the ...

The production of fully immunologically competent humanized mice engrafted with peripheral lymphocyte populations provides a model for in vivo testing of new vaccines, the durability of immunological memory and cancer therapies. This approach is limited, however, by the failure to efficiently engraft human B lymphocytes in immunodeficient mice. We hypothesized that this deficiency was due to th...

Nitrate contamination of drinking water implies a genotoxic risk to man due to the endogenous formation of carcinogenic N-nitroso compounds from nitrate-derived nitrite. Thus far, epidemiological studies have presented conflicting results on the relation of drinking water nitrate levels with gastric cancer incidence. This uncertainty becomes of relevance in view of the steadily increasing nitra...

In normal human peripheral blood, cutaneous lymphocyte antigen is expressed by memory T cells, suggesting a specific tissue-homing population of T cells. In this study it is demonstrated that 6% of CD56 + natural killer cells in peripheral blood also express cutaneous lymphocyte antigen (CLA). It was also detected that most of the tumor cells in primary cutaneous nasal-type natural killer cell ...
