Acinetobacter baumannii is an emergent and global nosocomial pathogen. In addition to A. baumannii, other Acinetobacter species, especially those in the Acinetobacter calcoaceticus-baumannii (Acb) complex, have also been associated with serious human infection. Although mechanisms of attachment, persistence on abiotic surfaces, and pathogenesis in A. baumannii have been identified, the genetic ...

We compared the E-test to the broth microdilution method for testing the susceptibility of 115 clinical isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii to colistin. Twenty-two (19.1%) strains were resistant to colistin and 93 (80.8%) strains were susceptible according to the reference broth microdilution method. A categorical agreement of 98.2% was found, with only two (1.7%) very major errors. Agreement w...

We performed this study to evaluate the relationship between genospecies and the outcome of Acinetobacter bacteremia. METHODS Clinical data from 180 patients who had Acinetobacter bacteremia from 2003 to 2010 were reviewed retrospectivel...

The in vitro activity of the novel antimicrobial peptide dendrimer G3KL was evaluated against 32 Acinetobacter baumannii (including 10 OXA-23, 7 OXA-24, and 11 OXA-58 carbapenemase producers) and 35 Pseudomonas aeruginosa (including 18 VIM and 3 IMP carbapenemase producers) strains and compared to the activities of standard antibiotics. Overall, both species collections showed MIC50/90 values o...

We report the draft genome sequence of Acinetobacter baumannii strain MAR002, a biofilm-hyperproducing clinical strain isolated during the study CP/09/0033 (GEIH/REIPI-Ab2010, Spain). The genome of A. baumannii MAR002 has an approximate length of 3,717,929 bp and 3,300 protein-coding sequences, with a C+G content of 39.09%.
