Dendritic cells can initiate antimicrobial responses by CD1-mediated presentation of pathogen-derived glycolipids. We show that the protozoan Leishmania donovani inhibits CD1 expression and prevents activation of CD1-restricted T cells by dendritic cells. Evasion of presentation by CD1 may represent a Leishmania survival strategy to avoid recognition of abundant parasite glycolipids.

Coral bleaching caused by ocean warming is leading to worldwide coral decline. The physiological processes underlying this ecological event are still incompletely understood, although previous research has suggested oxidative stress as major player in the impairment of symbiont thylakoid membranes and symbiosis breakdown. Lipids interesting targets investigation, given their susceptibility ther...

Abstract Higher alcohols represent a highly interesting group of substances for fuels or as intermediates the production chemicals. Current pathways higher are based on fossil resources. Sustainable and largely available methanol CO 2 ethanol biomass. can be used to produce in heterogeneous catalytic process employing Guerbet reaction. The resulting mixture consists mainly branched linear with ...

Methods Eighty-six patients with intermediate risk, angina pectoris, and suspected coronary artery disease were enrolled into the study. All patients were examined in a 3 T CMR system including functional imaging of the left ventricle, adenosine and rest perfusion imaging using a bolus of 0.075 mmol/kg gadolinium based contrast agent (Dotarem, Guerbet, France), respectively. CMR studies were pe...

The technique of short bed--continuous development chromatography has been utilized to increase the separation of glycosphingolipids on high performance thin-layer chromatography plates. The theoretical goal of increasing separation of bands by decreasing solvent strength was achieved within a practical time span as a result of the high solvent velocities in the short bed tank. Examples are giv...
