Nitrate accumulation is a major factor for the secondary salinization of greenhouse soil in China. Our previous study pointed out that low ratio red:far-red light (R:FR) can improve salt tolerance pakchoi under excessive nitrate stress. However, nitrogen metabolism mechanism still unclear. To detect effect R:FR on stress, two extra additions 80 mmol·L−1 NO3− (H80) and 160 (H160) with/without (R...

A modified set of primers was developed to increase the sensitivity of nested PCR amplification of glutamate dehydrogenase (gdh) gene to detect and genotype Giardia duodenalis cysts in stool specimens. This modified set of primers had a significantly higher sensitivity (82%) than that of a previously published PCR primer set (53%).

Chicory (Cichorium intybus), a deep rooted weed, grows in regions with temperate climates. Seasonal partitioning of compounds between the root and shoot results in fluctuations in the soluble carbohydrate, nitrate, amino acid, and protein pools within the roots. The activities of nitrate reductase (NR) (EC 1.6.6.1), glutamine synthetase (EC 6.3.1.2), NADH (EC 1.4.1.14), ferrodoxin glutamate syn...

We focused on the role of plasma membrane glutamate uptake in modulating the intracellular glutaminase (GA) and glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) flux and in determining the fate of the intracellular glutamate in the proximal tubule-like LLC-PK(1)-F(+) cell line. We used high-affinity glutamate transport inhibitors D-aspartate (D-Asp) and DL-threo-beta-hydroxyaspartate (THA) to block extracellular ...

Leukocyte glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) activity was measured in 39 normal subjects, 32 neurological controls, 66 patients with progressive ataxic disorders, 32 with multiple system atrophy, 40 with Parkinson's disease, eight with Steele-Richardson-Olszewski syndrome, eight with juvenile Parkinsonism and four with the dystonia-Parkinsonism syndrome. GDH activity was reproducible to within 10% i...

Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) catalyses the reversible oxidative deamination of l-glutamate to 2-oxoglutarate in the mitochondrial matrix. In mammals, this enzyme is highly regulated by allosteric effectors. The major allosteric activator and inhibitor are ADP and GTP, respectively; allosteric activation by leucine may play an important role in amino acid-stimulated insulin secretion. The physi...

Serum glutamate dehydrogenase (EC 1.4.1.3.) activity was measured in 73 hospital patients who had a history of chronic alcohol abuse and who all had a liver biopsy performed. High levels of serum GDH activity occurred in those patients with recent excess alcohol consumption independently of the underlying liver histology, and did not discriminate between those patients with and those without al...

Denervated dog gastrocnemius muscle has shown a progressive decrease in total protein content, alanine aminotransferase (AIAT), aspartate aminotransferase (AAT) and glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) activity levels and elevation in free amino acid, ammonia, urea, glutamine contents and AMP deaminase activity levels during post-neurectemic days. The possible implications of these findings are discus...

-Ketoglutarate (KG) is a crucial metabolite in all living organisms, as it participates in a variety of biochemical processes. We have previously shown that this keto acid is an antioxidant and plays a key role in the detoxification of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In an effort to further confirm this intriguing phenomenon, Pseudomonas fluorescens was exposed to menadione-containing media, wit...

I . Diets containing varying lcvels of crude protein (CP) in the range 9.5-18.5 "/b with and without supplements of diammonium citrate (DAC) as a source of non-protein nitrogen (KPN) were given to 160 growing chicks from z to 4 weeks of age, and their livers were assayed for glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) activity. 2. Growth rate and total liver protein were increased by raising the protein leve...
